At Intersections, the festival’s spirit lives as much in its screenings as in the conversations, workshops, and knowledge exchanged throughout the week. This year, we were honored to welcome an exceptional group of UK and Lebanese experts whose work continues to reshape how films are made, heard, funded, and imagined.
From Paul Davies, one of the UK’s leading sound designers (You Were Never Really Here, Hunger), who guided participants through the emotional architecture of sound… to Rob Walker, re-recording mixer of Hot Milk, who explored how a film’s sonic language is built collaboratively with Lebanese sound designer Rana Eid.
We also welcomed Pinny Grylls & Sam Crane, co-directors of Grand Theft Hamlet, who opened new doors into virtual production, gaming technologies, and performance inside digital worlds.
Artist, writer and theorist Steve Goodman (Kode9) led a powerful session on sound, conflict, and sonic warfare, unpacking how drones, booms, blasts, and decoys shape the acoustics of fear.
And in our major industry panel, we brought together leading names including James Weddup, Maya de Freige and Karim Nasr and Jordan McGarry, moderated by Eneni Bambara-Abban from the British Council, all discussing co-production, funding, innovation, and the success of the AI in Film collaboration.
These exchanges form the backbone of Intersections: a festival where expertise meets curiosity, where UK and Lebanese professionals learn from one another, and where future collaborations take root.

How do we find a common way to talk about sound events, so we can shape them collaboratively with the director?
In this special panel at Intersections: The UK Film Festival in Lebanon, we focus on the British film Hot Milk (Rebecca Lenkiewicz, UK 2025) and the creative process behind its sound world led by acclaimed Lebanese‑UK sound practitioners Rana Eid and Rob Walker.
Join us as they explore how creative choices in sound become the film’s sound‑language from atmospheres that reflect characters’ inner worlds, to the collaborative dialogue between director, editor and mixer.
Rana Eid, Beirut‑born and a leading sound designer in the MENA region, co‑founded DB Studios and has built sonic landscapes for films including The Cave and Honeyland. Her work reflects deep listening and layered atmospheres rooted in lived experience.
Rob Walker is a UK–based re‑recording mixer and sound designer with over 20 years in independent film, installations and hybrid cinema. He studied film in Stirling and UCLA and has lectured in MA Sound Production.

Intersections: The UK Film Festival in Lebanon is supported by the UK Government’s GREAT Britain and Northern Ireland campaign* and delivered in partnership with the British Council, the British Embassy Beirut, and Metropolis Cinema Association.
