Thereā€˜s a reason people swear by these hiking boots… We’ve tested a lot of boots over the years at @outdoors_magic - but very few come with a story like this. @altberg.yorkshire.boot.makers was founded in 1989 and still operates out of its Richmond workshop to this day – with many of the original staff members still present, including founder Mike Sheehan and his son Joe. Richmond, Yorkshire, was once a town dominated by shoemaking, but when the last factory closed down, Mike stepped in with an idea. Today, the outdoor footwear brand he created is now one of the most highly-regarded in Europe and people travel right across the country specifically to benefit from their specialist boot-fitting services. And whatever your foot shape, there’s an Altberg boot for you. We put their Fremington boot to the test across limestone paths, steep ascents, and classic Yorkshire bog, and it was the perfect tool for the job. Read more about the Altberg story, and how we got on with their boots, via the link in our bio. šŸ—£ļø @will_renwick_ šŸŽ„ @davemacfarlane #HikingBoots #YorkshireThreePeaks #ad #paidpartnership

Straight into our list of the best lightweight sleeping bags we’ve tested. We’ve been out using the @rab.equipment Neutrino -6, a sleeping bag designed for nights dropping down to around 0C with a limit of -6. Here’s the clincher: it weighs just 870g and packs down to a size smaller than a regular loaf of bread, making it ideal for summer treks and fast and light adventures in the mountains. How have Rab achieved this? High quality 800 fill power down and an innovative construction involving long vertical baffles and helix-shaped horizontal ones - all combining to prevent down migration and to minimise cold spots. Expect large draught baffles, there’s an anatomically-shaped footbox and it has a nifty little phone or headtorch pocket on the inside. This is part of Rab’s newly-updated Neutrino range, sitting alongside -12 and -18 options too - all featuring the same new L.O.F.T3D baffle construction and hydrophobic RDS down. Full written review coming soon on our site. #rab #outdoorgear

Did you know budget UK outdoor brand Karrimor is big in Japan? Once one of the UK’s leading outdoor clothing and equipment specialists, Karrimor’s fortunes at home plummeted in the early 2000s. The brand was kept alive after being acquired by Sports Direct, and it remains a low cost option for hikers and runners today. Meanwhile in Japan, Karrimor has taken a very different path. The brand marketing and product development are licensed to a separate company, and it appears to be thriving with a more premium, design led identity. Same name. Very different story. What do you think? Would you like to see Karrimor UK take a few notes from Karrimor Japan? #outdoorgear
