Portraits Of Past/Saetia-split 7” numbered test press Solid Brass/What Was Behind Arrived yesterday, opened this morning. Everyone knows what this is by now, so I won’t go into detail. Fortunate to have received the final copy available. My girlfriend asked if I was going to sell this one because of its rarity lol. Not this one babe, that’s not what this one is about. Special thanks to Matt @whatwasbehind for this. Excellent work everyone. #portraitsofpast #saetia #solidbrassrecords #whatwasbehind

Cairo Capone 7” on Rosepetal Records. Been listening to this one since I saw someone repost the Enchantment Under the Sea Festival line up from 1996? Sorry my IG grid cropped out Anasarca, Torches to Rome, Seein’ Red and Palatka from this line up. I only went to one Festival in North Carolina and RentAmerica was one of the more memorable performances but then I forgot about Cairo Capone. Never knew they were on the same label as 400 years until I pulled this one back out to give it a spin. I do not know much about this band from Lancaster, Pennsylvania but Canadian Wasteland @canadianwasteland does a pretty fine job gathering their 7” and Demo together all in one place on their blogspot. Anyways. Worth checking this one out if you haven’t. Features members of: Encyclopedia Of American Traitors #whatwasbehind #emo #screamo #posthardcore #americanposthardcore

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐮𝐩! The first pressing of the @portraitsofpast & @saetianyc split 7”s sold out fast! Well, it turns out there was an unexpected over-run of the first pressing colors so we decided to buy them from the plant. They are available on the webstore. Now’s your chance to grab a copy on Orange/Cream Swirl or Blue/Cream Swirl. Also, we have a very small number of hand assembled and hand numbered test pressing versions for the completists out there. Go! #portraitsofpast #saetia #solidbrassrecords

Stealing The Pocket… So happy to have this one back in my collection. When I bought my first copy from Plan 9 30 years ago I always thought this was some odd bootleg copy of a mix tape. For years it was the only way to get tracks from my favorite bands. In no particular order… Frail - Promise Portraits Of Past - The Song With The Slow Part Action Patrol - Hustle Maximillian Colby - Last Name Rye Coalition - The Winningest Man Some of these have now been reissued by Numero, Ebullition and Lovitt but mostly lived exclusively only on this compilation released by Positively Punk for years. According to Discogs there are 1,000 copies of this. Cannot believe how much effort it took someone to make 1,000 handmade covers and 1,000 booklets at Kinko’s back in 1995. Excited to relisten to the Coleman and Crudos track tonight. #emo #screamo #punk #posthardcore #whatwasbehind @plan9music @ebullitionrecords @thenumerogroup @lovittrecords @bitter_melody_records

2 weekends ago I celebrated my 51st Birthday at the Nuzzle and P.E.E. show at Zebulon. It was awesome. So many friendly faces. I also realized today marks 3 years of doing What Was Behind. 2 milestones and a quick nod to The Hated. It’s crazy to think the last time I saw Nuzzle in 1995 I was 20 and that 31 years have passed since. It seems I am getting to live my younger life twice. It’s also crazy to still be doing What Was Behind. On day 1 of my first post I was happy just getting a few likes. I had no idea how many people I would reconnect with as well as all the new friends along the way. It’s been rad! Co-releasing a 7” with hero’s Portraits Of Past and Saetia with Solid Brass Records this year. Pinch me. @portraitsofpast @saetianyc @solidbrassrecs @jscottpearson @chuck_pettry Thanks to everyone for hanging with me along the way. Excited to see what is to come. ‘These are the days…” Matt / What Was Behind #whatwasbehind #emo #screamo #nuzzle #americanposthardcore

Who Killed The Killed Kid… Constatine Sankathi 7” from the More Than Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio. Friday, June 23, 1995 – Saturday, June 24, 1995. I do not think I have seen another copy of this cover. Very curious if it was Festival specific. If anyone else has a different variant, drop me a note. The Soviets, Strike, 1917… Rainy Day here in Seattle so what better compilation to check out on April 1st. I have an interesting relationship with comps, I don’t really listen to them much. Upon revisiting this one. Besides the cool packaging I couldn’t remember why I bought it. Digging through the inserts and I found one page that mentioned Unleaded Laboratories on the Soviets page. Immediately upon listening to this track it seemed like a outtake from the Calm self titled LP on Unleaded Records. Flipping through the inserts reading a note apologizing to Clay for the delay. Bingo. Ape Records insert secured it. I must have bought this 7” because they mentioned the Soviets were ex - Mohinder / Calm at some point. This track rips. I wish I had more. As far as I know, this is Clay playing all of the instruments. So good and under $10 on Discogs. IYKYK. #thesoviets #mohinder #calm #emo #whatwasbehind

P.S. The first victim is always the most difficult. On this day 30 years ago. Sean, Don, Eric, Jorge and David all went to the Chillfactor Dungeon to record the first Ink & Dagger 7” on the evening of March 31st, 1996. Love is Dead was born and also the bloodsucking theft of souls, nocturnal adventures and punk rock. Important news to come for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society of Future Vampires. “I’m throwing icicles at your heart…” - Sean McCabe @inkanddaggerofficial @ink.and.dagger @psfv_tags @trust_records_company #inkanddagger #screamo #hardcore #punk #whatwasbehind
