Congratulations to wani toaishara whose work 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 is showing at @fsmyergallery in Naarm (Melbourne). DJs of 𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗥 & 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 💘 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆, 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟵 𝗠𝗮𝘆, 𝟲 → 𝟵𝗽𝗺 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮 is an Afro-Caribbean crip DJ, interdisciplinary artist and curator. Her sound is genre-blending and her taste wide-ranging: she starts from her Dominican roots, and traverses all over from there. The result is a sound that is tough, sexy and totally singular - with a surprise around every corner. 𝗔𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶 𝗝𝗮𝗱𝘂 is an artists who, in 2024, was in residence in the West Space Studio in 2024 alongside collaborator Claire de Carteret. 𝗭𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 aka Audrey Jo Pfister is a writer, editor, curator, and adjunct DJ. As General Manager of @un_projects , we’ve had the pleasure of sharing our office with Audrey for the last three years 🫰 𝗔𝗺𝗿𝗮𝗸𝘀 has a euphoric and melodic left-field style - an energetic fusion of driving breaks and house that transcends the dance floor. Drawing inspiration from ambient and low tempo genres, he maintains connection to both the visual and auditory realms of music. 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮.𝘄𝗮𝘃 is a producer, songwriter, artist and DJ, known for her work in pop band Blusher. Her sets move through house, hyperpop and left-field club sounds, with a taste for the more ethereal corners of the dance floor. 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗮 is a Lebanese DJ and organiser of DIY grassroots music collective Synergy - known for mixing emotionally charged, eclectic blends of electronica, low-tempo, techno, bass-y, arabesque, and ambient sounds. 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 was developed by textile artist 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗿𝗶𝗹 during their residency in the 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 in 2025. Showing in the 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄 21 March → 5 May, this experimental, site-responsive work forms part of Devril’s investigations into the grid as a tool for reference and scale, used to define space, perspective and guide proximity when building an environment. They say, “A simple square grid has been used in design to accurately scale and plan works since the 1400s, when Italian architect Filippo Brunellesch used it to accurately scale an image and create perspective. The use of the vanishing point implies there is more to the world than what the artist, and by extension, the audience, can see. In 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, the weave of the fluorescent thread imitates a loose weave used in cloth. Threads depend on one another to create structural integrity. Similarly, when people describe social groups as being 'woven together', they emphasise the intersections and interdependence between individuals, highlighting that without the support of each part, the structure as a whole cannot exist. Suspended in the center of the grid is a small mirror - reflecting the viewer and embedding them in the work.
