Yesterday at Unpacking the Vision, we saw the premiere of "Where We Come From" with @iam_savvy
With contributors from Huddersfield, Chicago, Grenada and Bristol, the discussion explored identity, migration, resilience and the power of creative collaboration.
Born from the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the film reflects on rebuilding, connection and the importance of diaspora communities coming together through culture and conversation.
Collaborators shared their lived experiences, the emotional realities of recovery, and how film & music can hold space for both grief and hope.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the guest speakers;
@tomod_@sammojamgnd_music@maniallert@majellamark@rubywoodmusic
for being voices for Carriacou & Huddersfield.
Hosted by @cultureof_ and @ahuddersfield and @huddersfielduni
Join me on Thursday, 14th May, for an intimate look into the creative process behind "Where We Come From" a short film & Remix to a song I created.
This project is a journey through dual heritage, community resilience, and the deep-rooted connection between Huddersfield and Carriacou. I’ll be joined by guests to discuss the film and music, exploring how we use storytelling to honour our history and look toward the future.
We'll be screening excerpts and diving into the "how" and "why" behind the vision. Big thanks to my co-editor and cinematographer @TOMOD for helping bring these visuals to life and @culturesof_ for hosting the event.
