Awesome couple of days with Hospital Food tracking a massive 15 tracks! Really great to lay down all of the tracks as a band then take the time to focus on vocals and lead breaks where needed. Big fan of the @tarian_drums drum shells and heavy @hivedrums Snare too, so easy to get a great tone from. ~Steve
Last week, Jack and I ran our first ever youth music workshop at the studio. In 8 hours, we managed to write, record and mix an original track, combining everyone's styles and ideas. From learning about musical elements and songwriting techniques, we then discussed the studio's signal path, acoustics, microphone placement and choices, and had a crash course on recording into Pro Tools. Finally, we looked at mixing - delving into levels, panning, signal processing such as EQ and compression, and time-based effects.
It was such a great day, so we're working to run some more over summer! We plan to split these into seperate songwriting and producing, recording, and mixing workshops, so you can get stuck into the bits that interest you most. Let us know if you'd be interested in any of these! - Abi

Retro popster, Tony Farrand returned to Vibes again this year to record some glam rock with me. Ie of course obliged, and our in-house drummer Abi worked her magic (I even got her singing on a track again!)
It's always a special session when I'm encouraged to use retro production techniques, and mixing tape driven drums into spring reverb was just the thing this project needed to give it that glam flavour. Thanks Tony! ~Piper

It’s been a long time coming as we’ve been chipping away at this project over the last couple of years.
It’s been a great way to work, a few hours here and there rather than trying to push through multiple long days in a row. This way it’s kept us fresh and given us plenty of space to think of new ideas and developments as we’ve worked. - Steve
Pop punk has evolved again - and this time, it sounds different. In the latest Session Notes feature I looked at how the mix priorities have shifted from guitar walls and sub-heavy kicks to snare-led, vocal-driven clarity.
It’s a sound we’ve been exploring at the studio too. Whether we are tracking drums, refining vocal chains, or testing new mix approaches, we see the same shift happening in sessions every week. Artists want space, presence, and honesty in their sound.
The piece breaks down how those changes happened, why they fit today’s listening platforms, and what producers can learn from acts like LØLØ and The Paradox.
