made one of the shopsins menus into these big and colourful double sided A2 posters :) I’m not very good at writing these things so I won’t but for those who don’t know, the clips are from I Like Killing Flies, a documentary on Shopsins General Store, run by Kenny and his family. His daughter Tamara also wrote a great book called Arbitrary Stupid Goal, full of short anecdotes about her dad and growing up in the shop, the characters from the neighbourhood and shop etc etc. I also did not know until just now that today marks 5 years since Kenny’s passing. my cooking hero (just behind my mum and my nonna). they’re £5 + pp. msg me if you’d like one :)

Alright, Book(s) Club is back. Continuing where we left the english language in Riddley Walker, this time in Ghana rather than post-apocalyptic Kent with Major Gentl and The Achimota Wars by B. Kojo Laing. Achimota City, 2020 AD., Major Gentl (of Africa) and Torro the Terrible (born simultaneously in Europe and South Africa) battle for control of the city in the Wars of Existence. Laing was best known for his blending of Ghanaian Pidgin English and Standard English as well as constantly inventing new words and combinations. His books are fused together with blasts of vivid imagery, twisted through the language that describes them and the bringing to life of small creatures and inanimate objects. The book is very out of print and barely digitally available so the deal is: We’ve made a few bootlegs of a bootleg for those who are low on cash but if you can afford it and would like a plush riso’d boot with a Kodwo Eshun essay included we’ve 8 copies of the @cutt_press edition so please consider buying one from the shop! Once again, we’ll be meeting WEDNESDAYS, EVERY TWO WEEKS at THE ROYAL GEORGE PUB, 85 TANNER’S HILL, SE8 4QD. Commencing March ish, start date TBC. If you’d like to come then please contact [email protected] or msg @wallaceplusgromit so we can work out boot numbers 🫡
