Opening with a stomping rhythm and borderline-psychedelic melodies on an electric guitar, the song explodes once the rhythm picks up making for a unique psych-punk hybrid that is absolutely fascinating and engaging.
“This song was cathartic for Elizabeth and I to sing,” says Evans. “Everyone knows some pompous band or another who think they walk on water and look down on people or who double down if they have done something messed up and get called on it. The title ‘Shitical Darlings’ is self-explanatory. People keep kissing the arses of flawed assholes too often who don’t deserve it as if they are the second coming of Christ and then wonder why people’s egos are the size of the Hindenburg. Well, remember what happened to that!
“Mainly this song ironically combines Minutemen influences with Smashing Pumpkins influences; Justin and Ash really nailed the music,” Evans continues. “I thought it ironic to have a less heralded yet heroic band paired with a not humble at all band that have a singer who is way too into himself, as a contrast. My bad. So this is the closest #ClaudioSanchez @claudiopsanchez has come to telling the truth about the band name #CoheedandCambria in years, if ever. I guess he has settled for at least acknowledging to @spinmag she is a real person from Woodstock, finally. My bad. Left out how Apollo was Nate’s dog and she is my sister and you happened to do the weirdest name choices with real family members or pets of people you had eventual static with then try to erase them from the scene for mad long. Only took several decades of #emo #gaslighting , gatekeeping and people trolling and calling me a liar or flying monkeys and even a Woodstock tourism page run by one of the band’s friends saying my family and I never did much in the Hudson Valley scene. So this is a big step towards truth actually and I am grateful for the crumbs. It at least says she is a real person from Woodstock. I wish he had said more of the truth but it’s probably the closest he ever will come. Wish we could just have a normal phone call after several decades but that’s not on me. 🤷I appreciate he at least has never blocked me.

Having read Octavia Butler’s short story masterpiece ‘the evening and the morning and the night’, I wanted to talk about predisposition vs fate, ptsd & undocumented diabetes affecting mood swings. A friend at work the other day said “it’s a miracle you are alive.” I always knew that- being a cptsd survivor, a former teen hard/YA narcotics addict, a lifelong alcoholic, a mostly lifelong closeted non binary/pansexual and someone with occasional bouts of manic depression. And a lot of situational based “bruises”. Thank god for my old UCCC comparative religions class, my suny Albany gender studies and post modernism courses and helpful care. I also absorb a lot of other people’s anxiety which is why it is pretty insane that I have a customer service gig and absolutely great that I have a live band again to shout at the devil, get the aggro out- so to speak. It is also a huge relief to finally be over half a decade sober from alcohol and weed and 27/26 years since I did a rail of coke or heroin off of anyone’s body parts. Upon learning in 2020 that I was type 1 diabetic - which is really dumb because my dad had it, but it was overshadowed by his years battle w cancer- a lot made sense in hindsight. I guess I am just saying I love you all and am thankful for the grace given after a life full of a lot of rocky moments amidst the really awesome stuff or good I have done. Sorry if I ever hurt you. Also maladaptive poor coping skills or choices along the way while trying to find bearings. Times I have been super manic or a trainwreck. Often lots of fun and productive/high function regardless, but wrestling huge mood swings and dysphoria waves or disordered eating,sorrow drowning compulsion/not always understanding why I couldn’t fill the hole. Mental health work and emotional healing or regulation mechanism building takes practice and it’s also hard in a capitalistic world that delights in cruelty and hierarchy/harm perpetuation or ego. I also am not like blaming genetics for every shit thing I’ve ever done or my artistic yet alcohol struggling dad who had a lot of his own youthful trauma as a post WW2 immigrant. It’s just all very clarifying. Let’s build!
