#griefflow #meditationflow #ropeflow Sorry for the ramble here....lots of words. Today is four years since I spoke with my late wife Allison before she went on a ventilator in ICU and died two weeks later. She was a cystic fibrosis patient who lived 12.5 extra years because of two double-lung transplants....half our marriage came from strangers who donated their lungs. In many ways Allison was the strongest person I have ever known....wife, mom, superhero. She pushed herself to live long enough to see our two kids grow to adults, but her journey ended in February 2021 and I struggled to find myself. I have been doing RopeFlow for a bit over two and half years now, and have learned that when I am at my lowest point, when the grief wave feels like it is catching up, then throwing on some music and spinning this nylon cord around and moving through space can somehow magically help through Flow State. Tonight is one of those nights...but I am no longer walking this grief journey alone. I am beyond fortunate to have found love again with my new wife Lisa, because she *understands* all this as a widow herself - her late husband Walt died six months after my wife did. We had been school and FB friends and "talked" a lot via social media after joining this awful "club"..and that became more over time. We got married this last August, and she and I understand each other and dealing with our grief very well. She has even recently started picking up the rope herself....as well as playing human drone and doing some occasional hilarious commentary that always makes me smile. 😍 Is the grief all gone? No, it doesn't go away. You just learn to live around it and maybe not have it hurt in the same ways. RopeFlow is one of my coping mechanisms for mental health and "finding balance" in life. The fitness benefits are just a nice side effect. 🀣 I still love and miss Allison. Lisa is not a replacement..instead, this is something new and special and distinctly different. 😍 Ok, done rambling. #danceflowchallenge from @banannapotpot and @lyfe_recipes with inspiration from @flow.with.bex , @jump_princess , and @goodflow_goodflow . This was a lot of fun. Love the musical choice, you can't stay still listening to this. Thanks to my wife Lisa @adventuresonlido for playing Human Drone today. My coach @boldfittechnique decided we would do some Kettlebell Flow tonight as one part of the lesson. I *think* I know the names of everything. 🀣 Start from Rack/Clean and Swing to a Snatch with a lunge. Stand up to Iron Cross to Crossbody Swing and back up to Rack/Clean. Step sideways towards a Windmill Press. Standing Press to Crossbody swing and Rack. Loop-the-Loop to Rack on the opposite side and repeat on the other side. With a 20lbs kettlebell tonight, will be practicing with 12kg/26lbs bell this week to refine it (I need better lockout on the snatch and windmill amongst other things). #kettlebell #kettlebellflow

Level 54 in the Game Of Life unlocked. Flow time instead of birthday cake. 🀣 I spent most of the last weekend at Austin Bellfest @bellfestfam with @slushropes (she joked that I was the "Booth Babe" 😜) and I think that has helped revitalize my love of sharing RopeFlow here on IG... and also inspired me to keep working on other modalities like Kettlebells and Clubs and sharing the results. It was my first time trying to teach the rope to people I didn't know and I actually found it enjoyable. Also loved meeting so many Team Slush folks in-person for the first time. @coach_vigilante @_gettingjacked @monyflowz @blokofit @melanielevyfitness and many more. This last year has been very different....in a good way. Marriage to my wife and fellow "wid" Lisa @let_the_rope_be_the_rope has changed my life in so many ways. My adult kids are out of the house and living their own lives and I am still figuring out how it all works...but it has been very good. 😍 Huge thanks this last year to my amazing coach Monica @boldfittechnique , who has helped me move towards building strength and skills in Kettlebell, Steel Mace, Steel Clubs and Indian Clubs....and working around my extreme lack of flexibility. 😜 I am grateful for her patience and knowledge. Following on from last week's Strength Test, this time my coach @boldfittechnique had me doing "Endurance" events. Thanks for taking video, Coach! Lot of "First Times" on these. -First time attempting a 5 minute Kettlebell Snatch Test with 16kg/35lbs. Didn't get to 100 reps, but did finish 84 reps and gained a new appreciation for pacing and smoothing out the form (and reducing wrist impact). Was happy to get a good lockout position on every rep. I can also see on video review that I need to hinge more. -"Grip Hold Test" with double 32kg/70lbs. 1m10sec. (Glad we did this *before* the next round 🀣) First time trying this, I think I can figure out some better strategies to make this longer. -Steel Mace 360 x100. First time going for this many reps in one attempt. It went better than I thought, but my hands were "buzzing" afterwards. -Indian Clubs. Outward and Inward Swings x25, plus Parallel Swings x25 in both directions. First time going this long in one session. My wrists were on fire by the end. 🀣 Overall it was good to see my progress over the last year and push boundaries. Thank you to Coach Monica for all her efforts with me since last spring!

Yesterday my coach @boldfittechnique announced it was Test Time. We did 5 Rep Max/1 Rep Max ladders up to the Big Bells until I couldn't finish an exercise. Basically every swing was a new PR up to these: Deadlift x5 with 32kg/49kg/56kg/68kg/80kg/92kg (202lbs) Two-Hand Swing with 32kg/49kg/56kg/68kg/80kg (176lbs) Clean and Press x1 with 16kg/18kg/20kg/22kg/24kg (53lbs) Goblet Squats x5 with 24kg/28kg/32kg/40kg (88lbs) I have been working with Monica for the last year on Kettlebells, Steel Mace, Indian Clubs, and recently we added in Steel Clubs. I went to the BellFest @bellfestfam pop-up in Dallas a couple of weeks ago coached by @keanureysoto and @legendary_pasos and Coach Monica saw me attempt a few things we hadn't tried before in our own sessions (including Big Bells)....and since I survived 🀣😜....my reward was tonight's "Gauntlet". I am not going to lie, I was nervous looking at all of these massive kettlebells when we started. Feeling pretty good about the results. I have a LOT of room to improve, especially around technique (especially with the swing and the press), but I surprised myself repeatedly and am proud to have completed all of these. Attended the @bellfestfam BellFest PopUp in Dallas (Allen) at @hidden_gym yesterday. This is a compilation Reel of IG Stories that people posted yesterday. Great sessions with Coaches Keanu and Thomas @keanureysoto @legendary_pasos on Kettlebells, Landmine, and Sandbags. I was honestly nervous going into this and doing Kettlebell complexes and sets in a group, I have been working with my coach Monica for the last year and that has paid off in the ability to keep up and participate. I was also able to swing a 150lbs Kettlebell and finally understood the Landmine Clean and Jerk enough to pull that move off. I also got to pull off a 100lbs Over-The-Shoulder Sandbag throw for the first time since I hurt myself on that about six months ago. So some good personal achievements here, along with being around a great group of people who were all interested in these same kinds of unconventional fitness routines. Had fun and would do it again. Was also fun being able to workout with my trainer Monica @boldfittechnique also (except now she will expect us to do some of those Tactical Clean and Snatch moves in our sessions). πŸ˜‚ I did some not-on-video RopeFlow practice with @enmovement @francheskafit and Thomas at the end, it was great to meet some other folks doing that practice and represent TeamSlush for @slushropes in a group (my first time doing that IRL). #teamslush Also enjoyed my conversation before it all kicked off with Thomas about teaching and doing RopeFlow, its always great to hear other people's real-world experiences and learn from them. Looking forward to attending the Austin Bellfest with my wife in April. #bellfestpopupdallas

Got my wife @let_the_rope_be_the_rope a @crossropejumpropes SpinJumper through the new @slushropes partnership. Lisa says this is like a grown-up version of the Lemon Twist toy she had as a kid. 🀣 Mega cardio! Taken on New Year's Day at Galveston Island State Park while we were camping.
