Work has begun on the Northern Roots Visitor Centre. This project is a key part in transforming 160 acres of green space in the heart of Oldham.
Securing funding from the governments Town Deal and Levelling Up Fund, Planit have been involved in the design of this scheme making it the UK’s largest urban farm and eco-park when complete.
Virtual Planit were commissioned to produce CGIs of the proposed visitor centre which will host a cafe, shop, production kitchen, performance space and meeting facilities.
Since this project began, 2000 trees have been planted, six ponds created to support local wildlife and a wildflower meadow established with much more to come.

Cardiff is living up to its status as the UK’s first unicef_uk child friendly city with the council’s approval of @landsecgroup ’s plans for a new square on the site of a Debenhams, which closed in 2021.
Designs by @ldadesign and @chapman_taylor_architects reclaim city centre retail space for children and young people with adventurous play, water jets and a giant slide. It will be greener too, with new trees and generous biodiverse native planting.
The designs give shoppers, visitors, families and city centre residents fresh incentive to head to St David’s, one of the UK’s largest shopping centres. Community events will be hosted here and there will be a lively mix of street food, cafés and restaurants. The plans take a different approach to unlocking the area’s potential, pointing to a future for cities which is more experiential.
Project director Rob Aspland is delighted LDA Design is helping to deliver somewhere so green and child friendly right in the heart of Cardiff city centre.

The proposals for Central & Urban and JRL Group Ltd’s Sparkle Street have been granted planning permission. Designed by SimpsonHaugh, this new high-quality build-to-rent development will bring life to a currently disused site in Manchester City Centre.
•
The proposals envision the development of 359 residential homes within a 10-28 storey building, complemented by townhouses that seamlessly integrate with the surrounding area. The plans also include extensive residential gardens and a new street frontage, enhancing the overall area. The resident amenities are designed to promote relaxation and wellbeing, while fostering a strong sense of community.
•
We’re thrilled that the scheme has reached this important milestone and to be working alongside both Central & Urban and JRL Group Ltd on such an exciting scheme.

// BOXHALL City, London
We’ve been itching to share these visuals with you from @virtual_planit of our designs for BOXHALL City.
Many of you will have seen little glimpses on our stories throughout the year of BTS on site… it’s going to be an epic project!
The team behind the world’s first pop-up mall, BOXPARK, brings a next-generation food hall experience to London’s Liverpool Street. *Opening Spring 2025*
Contrary to BOXPARK’s shipping container industrial design, BOXHALL will transform under-used city centre locations into refined dining spaces with a particular focus on heritage and industrial buildings. BOXHALL has partnered with Macaulay Sinclair, to deliver the interior architecture proposals, with the vision to create an inspirational ‘contemporary casual’ food hall.
BOXHALL City will be located in the sensitively restored Metropolitan Arcade – an Edwardian shopping arcade opposite Liverpool Street station. In addition to the covered arcade, BOXHALL City will house a roof terrace, boasting panoramic views across the City, which will be available for post-work drinks as well as private hire and corporate events.
We’re really excited to be partnering with the BOXHALL team - the new Metropolitan Arcade location is steeped in history and its heritage is something we’re keen to preserve and celebrate in our designs.
Having worked with major hospitality brands on protected sites including listed buildings, we understand the importance of sensitivity and respecting the building’s history, while still contributing to each brand’s individual ethos and story. We look forward to unveiling more about our BOXHALL City concept very soon, and for the public to experience this unique new venue.

The highly anticipated MU4 project has started on site at @airepark , marking a significant milestone in the development of this transformative masterplan for Leeds.
MU4 will deliver over 10,600 sqm of premium Grade A office space and 650sqm of commercial space for @vastintuk . Situated in a prime location just south of Leeds city centre, MU4 is set to make a striking architectural statement, serving as a gateway and celebrating the arrival onto 8 acres of green space.
Designed to activate all sides, MU4 creates a dynamic relationship with the public realm around Tetley Triangle, where the iconic Tetley Building still stands proud.
By utilising off-site manufacturing for key building elements, we are reducing waste, lowering costs, and significantly enhancing thermal performance. The building’s facade, featuring etched pre-cast concrete, strikes a thoughtful balance between modern aesthetics and the surrounding architectural context.
MU4 is also designed with occupant wellbeing in mind. Each office floor offers full perimeter access to natural light and ventilation, fostering a bright, healthy, and productive work environment. Ground floor amenities and generous cycle provisions further promote a sustainable, balanced lifestyle for future tenants. Plus, the rooftop terrace on the seventh floor will offer sweeping views of Aire Park and the Leeds skyline - a perfect outdoor retreat.
Stay tuned for more updates on this landmark project and check out the images below to see how it’s taking shape amidst the beautifully completed landscaping c/o @virtual_planit 🍃
