The HYBRID FESTIVAL 2026 takes place @uferstudios_tanz_berlin May 22-24.2026💥 TICKETS 🎫 #linkinbio👆 The HYBRID Festival programme is designed to spark exchange between Berlin art universities and the professional artistic scene, bridging academic contexts with professional artistic production in the field of performance art and technology. On Friday, 22 May, the HYBRID Festival opens with three curated projects emerging from a university context, bringing together contributors from Freie Universität Berlin (Intervenierende Künste), Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF, and Universität der Künste Berlin, showcasing artistic and research-driven practices developed within university contexts. On Saturday, 23 May, Viola Yip will open the program with The Ombré of Touch for body, air, inflatables and electronics "The Ombré of Touches" is an embodied electronic performance for Viola Yip herself and her self-built inflatable instrument with electronics. The piece explores touch as an multifaceted interface for listening and music making, developing a highly person-specific music through touching a volume of air. Following piece, Norbert Pape will present Turbulence. Sunday, 24 May, the programme continues with works by leading professional artists. #newtechnology #creativearts #immersivespace #participativeart #interactiveart Directed @chrisaulut & @anastasia_putsykina 🔥🔥🔥 ARTISTS PROGRAM 🙌 🔥FRIDAY 22.05.26🔥 @gao.chang_rca @Aljo ša Dakić @san_drabak @davidmariano.berlin 🔥SATURDAY 23.05.26🔥 @norbertpape @viola_yip 🔥SUNDAY 24.05.2026🔥 cbcdance riccardo.castagnola @claudiaschmitz_cocohoehn @inter_section_performance @s_ercklentz @correianuno @dock_digital_berlin Design bureauknapp.de @xaverhirsch

Day 8 of #MaerzMusik at @radialsystem_berlin started with the world premiere of “Cybernetic Entanglements” by @viola_yip and Ken Ueno @djmoderne . The new work is built around a new wearable musical instrument shared and performed by the artists, framing their bodies as active components of a cybernetic circuit in which technology and embodiment continuously shape one another. Later, “Music for Commons Sensed++”, performed by Jan St. Werner @fiepblattercatalogue , @erwankeravecmusic and Dirk Rothbrust, brought together works from different countries and genres to explore how music can create a sense of community. The audience was invited into unexpected listening experiences and a transformed perception of space, as the concert focused on composed sound rather than melody or rhythm. Echoes, artefacts, disturbances, and unexpected noises shaped the evening, turning listening into an active, shared act in which meanings were continuously renegotiated between ear and world. Final week before the premiere! We are super excited to present this new work that has been brewed and planned for a while! About the small team behind the scene: This outfit is co-brainstormed between Lisa Simpson @agentecostura , Ken Ueno @djmoderne and myself. Designed and sewed by Lisa. The embedded electronic component was co-brainstormed with Nicola Hein @nicolal.hein and myself, Nicola will also serve as the Klangregie for the performance. This production would also not be possible without the technical support from Ilia Vyazov @_kndzni and performance feedback from the amazing Maren Strack @marenstrack.art . The piece idea emerged from the conversations between Ken and myself a couple years ago, laying the intellectual groundwork and artistic direction for the performance, while we are also co-composers and co-performers for the piece! Come see us bringing all the ideas and labor into actions this Friday. March 27, 2026 18:00 and 22:00 (two shows) Maerzmusik @ Radialsystem Cybernetic Entanglement is co-commissioned by Maerzmusik and CNMAT at UC Berkeley, with the additional support from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts @foundationforcontemporaryarts

With their upcoming performance at #MaerzMusik, @viola_yip and @djmoderne Ken Ueno tell us about their new work “Cybernetic Entanglements”. The concert performance is built around a new wearable musical instrument shared and performed by the artists. The instrument is neither costume nor prosthesis, but an operative component of a cybernetic circuit in which the performer’s bodies function as part of the machine itself. Rather than treating technology as an extension of the body, the work presents a dynamic and permeable relationship in which body and machine continuously co-constitute one another. Together, they tell us about their approach and development of the new work. Lunch Lecture 17.3., 1pm St Alban Vorstadt 95 @hsmbasel_music_and_scene with @viola_yip My Body as Transducer: Instrument Building from Transductions to Transmediality In her artistic practice, Viola Yip develops unorthodox self-built instruments for her compositions and performances that explore the complex and dynamic relationships between materiality, media, space, human body and machine body through sounds. In this talk, she will share some of her recent work, from a lightbulb, dinning turntable, an electromagnetic feedback dress, a laser feedback instrument, an inflatable feedback dome, and how different instruments serve as different sites for ontological investigation that music communicates across medial boundaries through the presence of the listening body.  Viola Yip is an composer-performer, sound artist and instrument builder based in Berlin. Her instruments and peformances have been presented and supported by places such as Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Harvard University, Cycling ‘74 Expo, Hong Kong Arts Center, Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, Akademie der Künste Berlin, Hochschule Luzern, Gare du Nord, KTH Royal Institute of Technology Sweden, Elektronmusikstudion EMS Stockholm, NOTAM Oslo, Oxford University, University of Huddersfield, Sonorities Festival at Queens University Belfast, NEXT festival Bratislava, Arter Museum Istanbul, Serralves Museum of Contemporary Arts Porto and Pinakothek der Moderne München. @musikakademiebasel_hsm_fhnw @hsmbasel_sonicspace @hsmbasel_electronic.studio @maras_sound #lectureseries #musicandsceneintransformation #performance #master #electronicmusıc

More tubes coming up in a very different direction! I am super excited to present a brand-new work "Cybernetic Entanglement" with Ken Ueno @djmoderne at Maerzmusik! Get your tickets now! March 27, 2026 Maerzmusik, Radialsystem 18:00 & 22:00 (2 shows) "Cybernetic Entanglement" Cybernetic Entanglements is a new work built around a new wearable musical instrument shared and performed by Ken Ueno and Viola Yip. The instrument is neither costume nor prosthesis, but an operative component of a cybernetic circuit in which the performers’ bodies function as part of the machine itself. Rather than treating technology as an extension of the body, the work presents a dynamic and permeable relationship in which body and machine continuously co-constitute one another. Cybernetic Entanglements foregrounds the singularity of each performer’s body – shaped by distinct backgrounds, genders, and life trajectories. Difference is not symbolic but materially operative: it conditions how sensing occurs, how signals propagate, and how sound unfolds in time. In doing so, the work reframes embodiment as an active compositional force. Situated within the framework of technodiversity, the piece articulates a cosmotechnics of embodiment: the circuit itself operates as a situated cosmology of relation, difference, and becoming, proposing an alternative vision of contemporary music-making in which technology does not erase difference, but amplifies relational complexity and cultivates new forms of sonic, corporeal, and cultural interdependence. "Cybernetic Entanglements" is co-commissioned by CNMAT at UC Berkeley, Maerzmusik, and also made possible by Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Photo by David Beecroft @davidbeecroft1956
