Stuart Campbell and Mitchell Robertson are special. Individually, they each carry something distinctive. Together, though, there’s a kind of chemistry that feels increasingly uncommon.
Before hearing so much about the intensity and emotional force of their performances in HBO’s Half Man, I already had the sense they possessed something rare.
What stayed with me most after our shoot for the @latimes was the connection between them. There was an unspoken understanding and trust that gave the photographs the level of intimacy I am always searching for.
Some people simply possess that “it” factor. They both certainly do. My guess is we’ll be seeing a lot more of these guys very soon.
Thank you both for the trust.
And thanks @tigglywinkler
I ended 2025 with Kate Winslet, who was promoting her directorial debut, Goodbye June—a film written by her son—while I photographed her for the magazine my father wrote for several decades. It felt quietly full circle. And just in time for Christmas, we spoke about Lee Miller, which felt like its own small gift for someone who has read extensively about her and is, in general, a devoted photo history nerd. Thank you for the opportunity Andy!

My years at The Sundance Film Festival @sundanceorg remain some of the most meaningful of my career. No matter who invited me to shoot, I always felt like a guest in Robert Redford’s world. It was a space he imagined and nurtured with such care. I am grateful to have witnessed a piece of his legacy. What he built will endure, and how lucky we are to benefit from his dedication and to see it continue to nourish future generations.
This is one shoot I will never forget. I had only five minutes with him and had to choose between shooting digitally or making a wet plate. There was no time for both, so I trusted my instinct and chose the tintype. With the darkroom support of @jolenelupo and @geoffreyberliner , the plates were waiting, and I managed to make two before he walked away. Truth be told, I do not think he was fond of the unforgiving nature of this particular medium. Still, I am grateful I followed that intuition, and even more grateful to have been a guest in his orbit, however briefly.
I’m endlessly appreciative of my Carhartt family for trusting me to direct and photograph this story, and to Bethany Yellowtail and her family for welcoming us into her home and community with such generosity. It was an honor to witness her artistry and the deep connection she carries to land, people, and tradition.
A huge thank you to my brilliant DP Andrew Wheeler @wheels41215 , my patient editor Wes Langdon @supervibrant and our tireless crew who braved the bitter cold with so much heart and talent. None of this happens without the dedication and creativity of a skilled team like this, and the unending generosity of the local people of Wyoming and Montana who welcomed us so openly.
I’m excited for everyone to spend a little time with Bethany’s story.
This wasn’t possible without my crew:

I have had the good fortune of photographing @therealmariskahargitay on many occasions over the years, and none on a more meaningful occasion than this. These frames are from our recent shoot for My Mom, Jayne, her powerful and deeply personal film, photographed on assignment for The Los Angeles Times.
The film explores the ache of loss and the complexity of memory, while also showing how truth, spoken bravely, can bring people together. The way she shares her family’s story is a master class in care, responsibility, and grace.
Mariska, your story moved me as a daughter, as a mother, as a sister and as someone who knows how hard it is to face what hurts. Your resilience, your clarity, and your emotional honesty stayed with me. Thank you for the film, for your example, and for being a constant reminder of how strength is found in vulnerability.
Everyone do yourself a favor and watch this film.
