#Repost @bakbasis with @use.repost ・・・ 💫“The Hauntologists” is opening this weekend! Join us on our opening day on Saturday 10 September for a welcoming word at 16 hrs from BAK's Curator Post-Academic Program, @juliamorandeira . "The Hauntologists" is a project emerging from within the BAK 2021/2022 Fellowship for Situated Practice. The term "hauntologist" served as a speculative proposition for the multifarious figure who uses spectrality to articulate unruly forms of critique and imagination—and who thus lives life as a way of spectral research. BAK is open for visitors Wednesday–Sunday, from 13–19 hrs. 📍 Location: BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht 📆 Date: 10 September – 13 November 🔗 Find the link in our bio for more information!

Last winter, @vervoz and I quietly published the hybrid visual essay Nᴏɴᴀʟɪɢɴᴍᴇɴᴛ ᴄᴏᴍᴇs ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍᴏᴠɪɴɢ. Pʀᴏᴘᴏsɪᴛɪᴏɴs ᴛᴏᴡᴀʀᴅ ᴀ sᴘᴀᴛɪᴀʟ-ᴄᴜʀᴀᴛᴏʀɪᴀʟ ᴘʀᴀxɪs. In it, we attempted to spatialize the framework of our interdisciplinary spatial approach and curatorial methodology-in-the-making. As we wrote there, our research “lingers in the promises of these [NAM] world-building projects, asking: what kinds of nonaligned thinking are in emergence now, and what are some of its characteristics across art, design, and spatial practices in the last ten to fifteen years? In what ways do these emergent modes of thinking tether between genealogies of the non-aligned and methods of production operating in socially and environmentally-engaged practices of the last twenty to thirty years? From a curatorial perspective, what kinds of politics of access are being performed through these non-aligned modes of thinking? What kinds of ‘publics’ (or notions of ‘public’ and ‘publicness’) are being called into (or back into) being?” Over the coming six months, we are thrilled to be continuing to map forms and frames of ‘nonalignment thinking’ operating across contemporary practices — such a project feels more urgent than ever. Many thanks to @mondriaanfonds for supporting the curatorial research period, and to @tijdschriftkunstlicht for the opportunity to write through a first articulation of the research. Watch out for more updates as we carry on with the work of scaffolding a think-tank of non-aligned thinkers, makers, and movers!

Merve Bedir: Scaffolds for the Common Thursday, 29 January 19:00 - 21:00 The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant (Sala Noua Galerie) Entrance from Str. Monetăriei 3 The proposition for this gathering was originally titled as the following: Design as/for scaffolding the intervals, collectivities, common, commons, neighbourship. The aim in this lengthy choice of words was to emphasize the agency as much as interrogating the capacity of creative interventions in supporting in these agencies. Departing from the urgencies of perpetual disasters, the erasure of livelihoods by monocultural reconstruction programs, and the ethics of collaboration for sustenance, the gathering will focus on questions of design’s operation within the infrastructural gaps, and scaffolding for possible collectivities. This presentation by Merve Bedir will build on the different roles she took on, the scales of intervention, and the ways she worked within situated practices that she selects from Maritsa River in Plovdiv, DEMKA steel factory workers’ learning structures, mangroves and villages of Deep Bay in Hong Kong, Kitchen Workshop in Gaziantep. Merve Bedir practices architecture and landscape design as expanded infrastructures of hospitality and mobility. A path of her work refers to the collective intelligences and imaginaries of the landscape. Merve is the co-founder of Aformal Academy in Shenzhen, and founding member of Kitchen Workshop in Gaziantep and Center for Spatial Justice in Istanbul. Her recent design projects include Basecamp entrance space and tent interventions in Utrecht, the Netherlands, an industrial kitchen in Gaziantep and Postane simple repair project in Istanbul, Turkey

🎥:@dailyphoetry 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗱𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹?🌱🐦 This was one of the questions participants pondered during the Nightwalk organized by Gemene Grond and Expodium in the future Merwede area. Under the guidance of Friso Wiersum, Bart Witte, curator Carlijn Diesfeldt, and artist-in-residence Merve Bedir, we explored the connections in this new area. Highlights: we reflected in silence by the banks of the Merwede Canal, discovered historical traces, and contemplated the future of Merwede. Wonderful suggestions for bridge names emerged, such as Rain Catcher and Flying Carpet. What’s next? You can read more via the link in bio! #gemenegrond #commoning #merwedekanaal

#Nightwalk #Merwedekanaal #GemeneGrond #NieuweBruggen ✨ Nightwalk Merwede – Will you join us? On Saturday, January 25th, Gemene Grond invites you for a special sunset walk along the Merwedekanaal. Together, we’ll uncover the rich history of this area and reflect on its future. How might the canal, nature, and animals experience this space? And what can we learn from that? What names would the new bridges have? The new bridges don’t just connect two sides—they symbolize broader connections. How might plants, animals, and even the water describe these bridges? And how would we, as humans, explain them to other species? During this walk, we’ll explore ideas for the future and lay the foundation for a new art commission connected to the bridges. Will you join us? 📅 When: Saturday, January 25, 2025 🕔 Time: 4:30 – 6:00 PM (meet at 4:15 PM), Free admission 📍 Where: Kanaal30, entrance Café Keet
