A film by Paula Garcia and VERSUS ‘Crash Body’ is a live performance by artist Paula Garcia. The film renders the performance as a standalone work for the screen. Premiered at Dark Mofo in Tasmania, the work brings Garcia together with stunt driver Cesar Hernandez, who move through a precise choreography of circling, braking, and near misses, culminating in a deliberate head on collision. For Garcia, the confrontation explores the relationship between human action and external forces, the fragility of the body as both image and record, and the reframing of violence as performance. In an era of synthetic, endlessly replicable images, Crash Body asserts the irreducible presence of the human body. Unflinchingly real and authored through action. Now live, link in bio.
