A spotlight on the one like Negative Affect… 🔦
Negative Affect is one of the many incarnations of Billy Garcia. A respected figure in the smog of LA’s underground, Billy has been responsible for some of the city’s most singular techno music over the last decade and is an integral part of the burgeoning US scene. This will be his debut performance in Bristol!

As a founding member of the notorious hardware bothering duo 138, the industrial mince of Lower Tar and the downright infamous nom de plume of DJ ANGELDU$T, Billy’s newest definition as Negative Affect finds him in simply gnashing form. Honing an infectious ability to blend raw mortar trax with a consistent swing and deadly precision, Negative Affect sees Garcia marrying the steely Detroit bounce with a rude sprinkle of ferocious Downwards facing thump and roll to devastating…effect (ahem).
This delectable combination can be found across Bill’s impressions left on dance floors the world over. From syncopated broken beats sparring with cool and deadly Sandwell excursions, to full blooded bludgeoning techno wallopers, Negative Affect sets exude a studied efficiency in club grammar, ensuring dancers are kept moving on a decidedly thorough journey through the moves. To cement this objective, his role as co-founder of the Counterpoint LTD imprint further implores the knuckle biting intention to be found within the Negative ecosystem. Recent releases by Spanish disciple Hurtado and the deafening return of Mick Harris’ Monrella project have secured the label as a bastion for no nonsense dance mania. Held together by Billy’s vision for engaging and “anti-trend electronics”, the label stands as just the latest blade of one of the game’s most dedicated Swiss army knives .

We’re delighted to welcome Bill to Bristol 🛸 Up the Probe! . . . The Probe presents: DJ Red & Negative Affect - 17/04/2026 Tickets from Headfirst 🎟️ and in the bio 🔗

A Spotlight on the one like DJ Red…
Born and raised in Rome, Simona Calvani aka DJ Red has developed her signature swooning techno sound from a singular conceptual space over the last two decades. A universally respected DJ and producer, Red has established her reputation as a true sonic savant, near enough perfecting her craft both behind the decks and in the studio. We’re delighted to invite her to this fifth edition of The Probe. Emerging at the starting gun of the new millennium alongside peers such as Dozzy & Neel, DJ Red cut her teeth as resident at the infamous Goa Club and has steadily grown her sound to become a chief arbiter of some of the wiggliest, most lysergic techno ever committed to tape. A true trencher, Red has dedicated her long career to refinement and consistency. Her ocean deep knowledge of her records enables her to palpate more for less every muscle in a dancing body. Be it a tantric slip into meditative pulse or alarmingly direct jack hammers, she can frequently be found at the helm of some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs. From Berghain to Bassiani, DJ Red has taken countless dancers to the farthest reaches of dancefloor elation and back again with her transformative and forensically delivered sets.

Away from the booth Red commands an authority in the studio that few can hope to reach. A volley of sought after releases on esteemed labels such as BPitch Control, Electric Deluxe and Goa Club’s in-house imprint Unpolite Records has established Red as a consummate tastemaker within the grammar of contemporary techno. Churning, swirling and undulating rhythms pattern up to serve as your sonic spirit guide - delightful twists and turns dictate a tantalising journey through evocative synthesis and body hugging groove.
Suffice to say, DJ Red comes to us as the complete article. Consume your favourite party tonic and join us for another deep dive into the probing…

Toot toot 🎺 Hot on the heels of another amazing party with space•lab, Patrick Russell, Vardae and Rizla, we’re fresh back into it! For our next edition we will relocate to The Island and are delighted to welcome DJ Red to Bristol for the first time! As a longstanding resident at the legendary Goa Club in Rome and an essential figure in the growth of Italy’s techno sound over the last 20 years, Simona Calvani commands an unreal control of the dancefloor. Directing the energy from meditative focus to hair raising twists & turns, Red possesses a unique skill in conducting between depth and directness. Having heard her Waking Life set from 2023 we’ve wanted to witness DJ Red’s all vinyl education on home soil for ages now so we’re gassed to host her indelible craft for our fifth outing. Cool and deadly headwork, DJ Red will apply her technical prowess with an otherworldly ability to send it down the wormhole like no other! Joining her we invite the unique style of LA native Negative Affect! Negative Affect is the latest effort from Billy Garcia - founder of Counterpoint Records and a key figure in the LA underground for over a decade as the man behind DJ ANGELDU$T, surety and the much loved 138. Billy combines the coruscating motion of future facing Hood/ Axis jack with an undiluted view to push beyond any linear or stylistic constraints, defying listener’s expectations whilst perennially enforcing a sound which pure bangs lads. Billy will be DJing for us in his inimitable style - expect relentless energy and a view to lead you firmly by the ears down some of the most leggy tunes this side of a car factory. Your resident Probes will top & tail proceedings - warming in and boiling over for what promises to be a really special one for any adventurous travellers looking for a proper probing. We hope you can join us . . . A spotlight on the one like Patrick Russell A true son of Detroit, Mr Russell comes to us with over 30 years at the helm of motor city techno. One of those ’story tellers’ y’see, Patrick’s reputation precedes him as one of the scene’s most deft and effective sonic explorers and we’re truly delighted to host him at The Probe next weekend. Cutting his teeth in the rugged terrains of the Midwest raves and dance floors in the early 90s and long standing resident at arguably one of the best parties on the planet, No Way Back, Patrick has a fluency of mixing that few others can touch. Subsequent appearances at Berghain, Labyrinth, Movement & Mostra BCN cement him as a crucial operant in the techno multiverse; focussed and dazzlingly effective. Whether it be wiggly acid excursions, head spinning complexity or body jack madness, Patrick will spin an enviable web connecting the tissues between narrative eloquence and roof raising impact. Mixes for Bunker Series, RA and Dekmantel further highlight how Patrick’s vision for the dance is in a field of its own and perfect for a good probing. Away from the decks, Patrick has established himself as a consummate producer with head turning releases on Bunker NYC and Lavibe. The development of minimal aesthetics into churning psychedelia showcases the artist in the form of his life, bridging the gap between classic and contemporary elements to create fresh avenues and inroads on the classic motor city sound. Future shocking, jack hammering machine funk bedlam. Beam us up Patrick! . . . The Probe x space•lab presents: Patrick Russell, Vardae, Rizla - 20/03/26 Tickets from Headfirst 🎟️ and in the bio 🔗

A second spotlight on the one like Rizla...

Where to begin? With Patrick & Sunju’s imminent arrival, we couldn’t think of a better sparring partner for our visitors to succeed. Previous Probe attendees will be accustomed to Rizla’s gentle reach into the furtive waters of sanguine ambience and deep listening. After a cold, wet winter, Riz makes a welcome return to the booth at The Probe for a second innings of warming us in.
Despite having no digital footprint, Rizla’s presence feels like an evolving weather front in the Bristol scene - her ability to craft beguiling routes through fourth world ambient into bubbling downtempo marches is second to none tbh - deft twists and turns from watercolour atmospheres toward flowing drum speak, dulcet and in control. Amidst a trend in harmless navel gazing, Riz takes the challenge to the listener with inexorable progress toward a sound both refreshed and dazzling. A recent outing on the Brew’s formidable front system revealed a penchant for starker, more direct rhythmic leanings combining to render new focus and dynamic tension into the mix.  Ever the legend, Riz even sent us a new promo photo for this edition, highlighting her eclectic digging habits and the pertinent reminder to always expect the unexpected and never to judge a book by its cover. Or something to that effect.

Get down early and allow Rizla to massage your tired mind before a long night of probing ahead. Trust us. . . . The Probe x space•lab presents: Patrick Russell, Sunju Hargun, Rizla - 20/03/26 Tickets from Headfirst 🎟️ and in the bio 🔗

A spotlight on the ones like @blashaallatt … Right - anyone who knows us knows we pure love Blasha & Allatt and that it’s hyperbole time.
These two are the bit of the Guinness that peers over the lip but doesn’t spill. These are the little solid cone of chocolate at the end of a cornetto (obvs the best bit, no arguments). The skin on the custard. The 90th minute winner. That lights up moment… The new gen’s old head success story for the ages - put simply; the best proper techno plate spinning dynamic duo there is right now, thank you very much. First crossing our radar at a particularly hazy Freerotation some years ago now, one Probe says to another “these were the best set of the weekend by a country mile” etc etc and the rest is history. After a decade now behind the infamous Meat Free parties alongside the one like Aalice, Blasha & Allatt have spent the last few years in particular securing the bag like nobody’s business. From triumphant residencies at Berghain, Vault Sessions and Tech Couture to consistently blowing the doors off their local boozer at the DBA in Salford, there’s been no let up in trajectory from Blasha or Allatt in recent years. The hip jacking pedigree upon which they have built this particular house could only have been grown from literally years at the coalface; consummate collectors and highly driven arbiters of quality in a style so stymied by forced and dreary efforts, Blasha & Allatt are standard bearers for authentic and committed techno excellence. Dispensing with the high build up/low pay off hype bullshit, their sets are built with enviable knowledge of their selection and a telekinetic ability to bounce off one another in a furious 1 for 1 format. Mangling every shade of ecstatic dance into the form of a remorseless techno workout, there really aren’t any other artists on quite the same tip as Salford’s finest at the mo. Flamboyance and fun partners with razor sharp funk forensics!! Blasha & Allatt in the place at last 🎉 . . .
