Laying out your perfect Saturday for you… starting with lunch at Corona Plaza. Some personal favorites: Tacos al Gusto (Huitlacoche!), Tlayuda Oaxaqueña Sr San Pablo (empanadas w/ mole amarillo!), and La Antioqueña II (passionfruit turnovers and coffee!) right in the Plaza. A little ways down Roosevelt Ave is Tortilleria la Guadelupana (for picnic supplies… lb of tortillas + lb of carnitas + salsas) and legendary food truck Tortas Neza. Next, stroll or train on over to Flushing Meadows Park and the @queensmuseum which has a very cool-looking art-making workshop on Saturday with Indigenous artists Denise Silva-Dennis (WeeTahMoe) and Jevijoe Vitug from 2-4:30. Then, the @queensnightmarket opens next door near the Hall of Science at 5pm. 65+ food vendors serving cuisines from around the world and 25+ artisans and makers. It is mind-blowing. Or!.. if a quick bite and concert is all that’s possible: my great love @maxisnoodle (closes at 7pm), the staggering food court at New World Mall, the stylish oyster and cocktail bar @theattic_flushing_ , and sweet things at @sweetcakenewyork . Then get yourself down to @flushing_town_hall for 7:30 to see @5ivebmf ’s season opener: @cecilia_duarte_mezzo_soprano and @trio_chapultepec ! (A lovely art show down in the gallery as well if you’re there early by @cheminhsiaoart ). I heart NY @itsinqueens

Sunset Park is amazing! Brooklyn’s Chinatown on 8th Ave, legendary Mexican eats (Tacos el Bronco, @tortilleria_la_malinche , @jugosdonpepe and many others), and Middle Eastern classics (@yafabrooklyn , @sahadis , @kofte.piyaz ). Stroll Sunset Park (the park), check out beautiful murals by @marka_27 and @viajero and browse @industrycity : shops, studios, books (@powerhouseatic ), food hall, @japanvillagebrooklyn , etc. And of course, come see @5ivebmf ’s season opening show! @cecilia_duarte_mezzo_soprano @trio_chapultepec and Jesús Pacheco at @fiveboroughsbrewing Friday at 7:30pm [Only word of advice: crossing 3rd Avenue is A-OK, but avoid walking along it! you’ll end up walking underneath the Gowanus Expressway 🚗🚛🚌💨]

Bookended by premiere performances of Juantio Becenti’s beautiful new piece “The Glittering World”: @afarcrymusic tour to GA, NC, and MA, capped off in DC at the Kennedy Center; sitting in with @acronymensemble for the first time at the ISGM; @arslongadelahabana ‘s many-years-delayed performance @5ivebmf & @gemasearlymusic ; a much needed cabin respite including first snowshoe and maple sap gathering and boiling; St. John Passion and Mozart 563 Trio @tafelmusikbocc ; and the Boston Premiere of The Glittering World with AFC. A bit surreal to see this becoming a reality! Feeling so grateful and honored to be joining this musical family. To join such a special ensemble, to be so warmly welcomed by my new colleagues, and to be that much closer to my family in Canada, all means so much. I’m thinking a lot these days, too, about the countless friends / teachers / colleagues who’ve helped me along the way, over the last months, years, decades. An astonishing sunset to close out last weekend’s concerts with Oracle Hysterical and @hubnewmusic , @5ivebmf ‘s return to live concerts and also the last notes played in our 14th season! @thenewhousecenter and @bplpresents were the most phenomenal partners and hosts, and both dream venues for OH’s Terra Nova. It meant so much to be able to roll out the red carpet for these two ensembles, whose talents, creativity, and drive are truly inexhaustible, almost impossibly so. I can’t wait to share the digital release in June!
