@davidlangmusic ‘s “note to a friend” really shows his genius in composing libretti. It’s all based on a letter Ryūnosuke Akutagawa wrote to a friend explaining why he was going to commit suicide. The resultant character is overly self aware, quirky, dark, funny, and kind parochial at times. I don’t think there is or could be a better artist to vocally realize this character than the inimitable
@theobleckmann . Meanwhile the
@attaccaquartet brings ferocity to even the most delicate moments. I could say more but it’s all right there in the recording.
