Andy van Allsburg (/van Awesome) and I have been at University of Oregon this week workshopping new scores of Rivers are our Bros for SATB. It’s a tall order but this choir is peerless, as is their director. We flew thru Cloud, Air and River in two days and I’m scribbling furiously in an effort to get Rock on its feet for tomorrow. Congrats, UO singers, my dears, you are superstars. Can’t wait to have you all to myself tomorrow!

OREGON!!! I love Oregon, so much that I’m coming back next week. This tree is my Valentine. It’s a Tree of Heaven—technically invasive but looks pretty good here, although my app tells me it’s under-watered?? We are excited to partner with artist Majel Connery for February's Forest Pub. Majel will perform "Elderflora," a song cycle tracing the life and death of a tree. Told from the tree’s perspective, "Elderflora" melds old sounds with modern technology, weaving hymns and madrigals into rich electronic soundscapes. Structured as a series of 10 musical portraits, each movement of Elderflora represents a significant moment in the life of the tree from birth by fire to death by lightning.
