Thank you everyone for all of your love and support. The first edition of Unity Consciousness Arts Festival is officially complete. We featured 9 artworks and 11 performances—a total of 28 artists were part of this inaugural festival.
It is a dream-come-true for us to be able to share what we love the most with our community as part of our union of love—a gathering of a creative, joyful and loving experiences with the community. Creating and sharing something purely out of love can be a rare treasure in today’s world.
Not driven by money, not pressured by production stress, nor following the conventional art apparatus, but just purely celebrating love—a unique kind of love that we get as artists—artist friends gifting you their art. Getting to share their beautiful love with the community completes our dream and the bigger ritual of the union. We thank you.

Music and dance were once the same thing.
How can we use digital instruments to turn dancers into musicians and musicians into dancers?
Last week, Liliana Salazar and I made an improvised performance for the Unity Consciousness festival at Vancouver’s @roundhousecc
Movement data from four @movesenseofficial sensors connected to miRack through @holonic.systems Holonist app, which allowed Liliana to use gestures and postures to voice physically modelled SWAM trumpets, running as AUv3 plugins inside miRack. SWAM’s tenor trombone was played on an augmented Roland Aerophone Mini, connected to an iConnectivity A4+ interface with a WIDI Bud BLE MIDI adapter.
Some of the numerous mappings include interactions like activating and controlling @eventideaudio ’s Qvox plugin by the angle of the wind instrument. Timbral parameters such as growl, flutter, pitch bend and vibrato were mapped to postures and movement. Some structural parameters were also mapped. For example, a walking SWAM double bass was triggered by leg movement and tempo was controlled by shared average activity of all sensors, clocked with Ableton Link. This compact setup ran off an iPad Mini 7.

the workshops are going super well! we got to experience the make your own jewelry workshop, it was such a wonderful process. The designers are doing pop ups showcasing their handmade jewelry that you can purchase at really affordable price, come by to pick your one and only jewelry piece and help Julie cover her travel cost from Taiwan. We want to tell y’all more about Julie Chang, the amazing jewellery designer from Taiwan. We had a wild idea to repurpose our family’s old jewelry—melting the gold and relocating the stones to create our wedding rings. We had no idea how difficult it would be to melt gold, but she said yes after hearing our stories of love and spirituality.
We got to witness her working tirelessly, going through trial after trial until it finally succeeded. In that final moment, it felt like our family in the spirit world came together to complete the process. It was like a little miracle.
Julie told us how inspired she was by our story—how it encouraged her to be more adventurous in life and creative in her work. She even flew in from Taiwan to attend our wedding and share her pieces at the festival.
Since she has discovered so many unique handmade jewellery techniques, we thought: why not help her share that knowledge—and hopefully recover some of her travel costs? So we offered to host a workshop with her at our little art space in Chinatown. Her friend Jasmine from Island Jeweller will be co-teaching the workshop with her, it will be a very lovely experience :)

On the final day of the festival — which happens to fall on Canada Day — we are honoured to share a powerful Indigenous-led program. It opens with Sophie Dow & Mohammed Rashead, a ritualistic dance duet exploring the Ether. Following that, our long time friend/spiritual family Starr Muranko (Co-Artistic Director of Raven Spirit Dance) will share a heartfelt drumming and singing alongside her young child, Sami Qhapac Alvarez, a precious intergenerational and intercultural collaboration.
The finale features two acclaimed Indigenous musicians: RITUAL PURIFICATION (a highly respected ritual noise artist) and Kuliktana (from the renowned Inuit throat singing group PIQSIQ), performing together for the first time. Though each artist holds an esteemed practice of their own, this marks their first-ever public collaboration. Expect ethereal vocals, cascading drones and immersive waves of crackling noise gathered into a cathedral of enthralling, textural sound.
Sharing this work on Canada Day is a bold and heartfelt act of reclaiming space, re-centering Indigenous voices, and celebrating true relationship and collaboration.
Before the Continuum program begins, we encourage you to arrive early to enjoy the final day of the exhibition and catch a special interactive technology activation by Ove Holmqvist & Liliana Salazar at 1:30pm. Ove, a Finnish musician & technologist, works with advanced generative music and motion-tracking sensors. In this activation, his partner Liliana — who works in the healthcare sector — will join him to activate their generative music through movement. This is a great opportunity to experience interactive technology up close.
At the end of the program, there will be a little secret surprise to bring a beautiful closure of the festival. We are excited for you to experience this in person.
