We were honoured to host BC Premier David Eby @davidebybc on a tour of UBC’s Blusson Quantum Matter Institute @ubcquantumscience . Premier Eby visited Blusson QMI’s state-of-the-art facilities and heard about the Institute’s world-leading research, training, and technology development programs.
At Blusson QMI, we foster the discovery, understanding, and control of quantum materials and related novel materials and devices while training the professionals who will translate this intellectual capital into economic benefits for Canada and transfer the discoveries to industry to create next-generation technologies.

We had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique @cnrs to @ubcquantumscience today! Hosted by Sarah Burke, Paola Baca, and Pinder Dosanjh, the group toured our labs and connected with researchers including Josh Folk, Alireza Nojeh, and Alannah Hallas.
From quantum materials by design to electron microscopy and quantum devices, the conversations highlighted exciting opportunities for collaboration.

"All my research over the past 30 years has been building toward 2e-ARPES, where we aim to detect, for the first time, two connected electrons at once and capture how they interact as a pair,” says Andrea Damascelli, an Investigator @ubcquantumscience and professor @ubcphas@ubcscience .
Damascelli was named a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow, read more about the project he will focus on during his fellowship via the link in our bio or here: /34h7tjky

Happy World Quantum Day 🇨🇦 Hunter here from @ubcquantumscience ! I’ve been hangin’ out at QMI for a while now, which in quantum terms, is both a long time and no time at all. In that span, I’ve observed the field expand: more researchers, more ideas, and significantly more whiteboards filled with equations.
QMI has grown along with the field, which of course means there are potentially more treats around the place for me. I conduct regular rounds for pets and observational check-ins: a small but meaningful contribution to the day-to-day operations [snack drawers are also monitored].
All this to say: I’m very proud of my friends in the QMI community, especially our students. Thank you for your drive, curiosity, and commitment to the field. This World Quantum Day, we celebrate you!
P.S. If anyone can explain entanglement to me in terms of treats, I’m listening.
– Hunter
