Some of the current turps painters are in: And I Want A Pony at AMP Gallery, SE15 2TZ.
The show runs until tomorrow and is open 12-4
Small works, big ideas. Thirteen painters - each driven by distinct desires, questions, and stubborn ambitions - come together to celebrate painting’s irrepressible urge to do its own thing regardless.
What unfolds in the passage from idea to action cannot be contained by description, nor measured by size. Within each of these thirteen modest works, creative energy pushes insistently beyond the limits of their four prescribed edges. Once the materials meet the hand, intention loosens its grip, and the painting is free to change its course.
Brought together through the Turps Studio programme, these painters have been shaped by the conditions of sharing a studio space: the daily proximity to one another’s processes, doubts, and discoveries. This sustained exchange of looking, listening, and working side by side has left its trace, not as a unified style, but as a heightened openness to risk, generosity, and a genuine exploration of the restless, ever-changing possibilities of painting itself.
