This piece represents my continued exploration of the space between the gridded forms, where all of the unpredictable interactions occur. I have almost exclusively been using cylinders of ice which are 2cm in diameter for 1.5 years, this new painting utilises ice with a 5cm diameter, a significant increase in scale and volume of colour. 1 of 18^143 Acrylic on cast Perspex 115 x 130cm 2026

Here are 2 other new grid variations, exploring overlapping events in space, but not time. Hopefully I will be able to return to the studio soon, and begin making these a reality.

Currently unable to walk, due to a bout of extremely painful Achilles tendinitis, so I’m trying to pass the time planning some new layouts for my grid paintings. For a while now I’ve wanted to explore changes to the grid, and here I’m experimenting with introducing a sense of diagonal movement.

Time lapse footage from a recent studio experiment. As the ice melts, the camera allows us to see the time and movement that is normally hidden to us. Just as the paintings are designed to reveal the underlying physical laws of the universe.

This piece represents the start of a new series called Chirality, which explores ideas of handed symmetry. Just like the left and right hands are symmetrical with each other along one division, they can not be superimposed. This symmetrical relationship is present in nature, expressed through chemical compounds where the right handed molecule behaves differently from the left handed version. Symmetry is also important in fundamental physics, relating to particle interactions and the flow of time. Chirality 1 Acrylic on cast Perspex 68x68cm December 2025

A new work, beginning a new series of ice paintings. This work uses only 9 pieces of coloured ice in a grid formation, but each disc of ice can be either 2cm, 5cm, 10cm, 15cm or 20cm in diameter, chosen at random. The volume of liquid on the surface is significant, and this piece took nearly 3 weeks to dry, which led to some very interesting interactions between the different colours. This new series of work explores the idea of how mass distorts space time and permeates across vast distances via the fundamental force of gravity. Interaction of Mass #1 Acrylic on cast Perspex 140 x 140cm December 2025
