Excited to share that the Pixel Rugs monograph, published by @vetroeditions , is launching this Saturday at @movingimagenyc . I’ll be giving a talk and signing copies of the book. Printed using Quadrifluox, an experimental fluorescent-ink process, the pages translate RGB color into pigment. The afternoon also includes a performance by Edgar Fabián Frías with four local Indigenous artists and a performance lecture by OONA. Supported by @artontezos Free, but RSVP required — link in bio.

✨Announcing the “Pixel Rugs” book
Rooted in the generative pieces @travess first released on the Tezos platforms hic et nunc, and continues to release on Teia, the book follows the project’s evolution through studio sketches, code snippets, and essays by @reas and @anika .
Discover the process, story and context behind Travess Smalley’s Pixel Rugs series in the artist’s upcoming book, printed using an experimental 5-colour fluorescent ink technique.

👋 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁: Travess Smalley (@travess ) works with computational software to create complex generative systems in various forms, including computer graphics, digital images, prints, software, games, and books.
Smalley often extends his generative process using digital printing, scanning, and creative software — incorporating alternative processing methods to produce unimaginable, emergent images. ✨
He is an Assistant Professor at @universityofri , and a Critic at @risd1877 .
Smalley has exhibited his work globally, with recent solo exhibitions through @foxyproduction , @endergallery , and @mackenzie.art.gallery .

YESSS!!!! "Deep fried" "fungal glitchscape" is my favorite interpretation of Networkbraid! Thank you @edhalter and @4columnsmag for providing such rich language. I'm having trouble expressing my feelings of having my work so generously interpreted.

Pixel Rugs, a series of 8 x 8 ft hand knotted wool rugs created from images formed through an evolving computer script that combines JavaScript, chance, Photoshop, and a large library of dither patterns.
My time in @risddm has been spent studying generative systems and how chance operations can effect image making. Each day last summer, I’d create a new Pixel Rug image and post it to Hic Et Nunc and Twitter. From the resulting 140+ works these six have been rendered as actual rugs. A dream come true for me.
These rugs are made in collaboration with @maman_rugs and the weavers Shanti Sunita Aparna, Ramraj Kailash Thakur, Ganesh Subhash Ravi, Ravinder Ashok Surinder, Aakash Raju Shlok, and Dhruv Akshay Vivek at @nityaexports .
I’d also like to thank @tess.oldfield@fhbach@sizod@nick.k.larson and @_kaelanoel_ for help with the transportation, installation, and documentation photos.
