The 4th Wall Won’t Save You is a new artist book by Arno Beck, bringing together drawings, texts, and reflections from his current body of work.
The special edition comprises 30 copies - each one unique:
20 letterpress embossings, a screenprinted text, and 48 individually hand-colored pages, printed in New York at
@marginaleditions and hand-bound in Düsseldorf at

The title refers to the theatrical “fourth wall” — the invisible boundary that preserves illusion. In this book, that boundary is deliberately broken: mechanisms of the art world that typically remain hidden become visible, revealing the structures and frictions operating behind the scenes.
The drawings extend Beck’s recent series of acrylic paintings, merging the aesthetics of medieval woodcuts with references to digital image culture. Meme-like captions disrupt historical visual languages and offer pointed commentary on the art market, artistic labor, and the contemporary creative economy — treating the woodcut as a kind of “early meme,” a pre-digital medium in which image and text already fused into concise, often ironic messages.
