For more details and registration, visit: https://shorturl.at/DnnxM Led by Singaporean theatre-maker and teaching artist Vignesh Kumar Singh (@vigneshsinghsg ), this workshop draws on techniques from world-renowned clowning institutions: Christopher Bayes’ Pandemonium Studio (New York) and Ecole Philippe Gaulier (Paris). Whether you're an actor, performer, teacher, or simply curious, this workshop is designed to help you tap into your authentic self and explore the humour that lives within you! *A portion of profits from this workshop will be donated to support victims of the recent earthquake in Thailand and Myanmar. What to Expect: Day 1: Le Jeu (The Game) Explore the foundation of clowning through Le Jeu—a playful, game-based actor training method that prioritizes spontaneity and joy. It’s a high-energy, low-pressure way to break out of routine performance habits and rediscover play. Day 2: Red Nose & Improvisation Step into the world of the red nose—the smallest mask in the world. Through improvisation and guided exercises, you’ll begin crafting solo and duo clown pieces, learning how to turn vulnerability into connection and laughter. Personal feedback will support your growth throughout the day. This workshop is a playground for self-discovery—an invitation to get a little uncomfortable, embrace your quirks, and celebrate the beauty of failure. No previous clowning experience is needed—just bring your curiosity and willingness to play! Read the Room, jointly presented by @translucentbodiessg and @strangerconvos , is an introductory level clowning workshop part of a larger mission to teach 100 people clowning in Singapore. This project titled 100 clowns is an attempt at creating a tiny gash here in Singapore for qualities such as vulnerability, sensitivity, joy and humour to rush right in. Since October 2024, we have managed to reach 69 participants. 100 clowns was birthed by Vignesh Kumar Singh, an independent theatre artist advocating for this genre of performance within Southeast Asia. #100clowns #clowning #theatre #actor #teaching #coaching #singapore #sgarts #local #southeastasia

Hey I’m Vignesh. My very personal project is called ‘100 Clowns’. I’m going to do my very best to teach clowning to a total of 100 people in Singapore. I’m 63 clowns in, with 37 more participants to go! I was inspired to do this after spending a month in NYC where I furthered my studies on theatrical red nose clowning. This project is an attempt to create a gash in our society for vulnerability, humour, joy and empathy to rush right in. Scene Study Sessions is a platform aimed at inspiring continuous study of one’s craft through scene work. Actors and Directors come together for a limited time to engage in their respective crafts through text analysis, rehearsal, and collaboration. In this cycle, one of the scenes we are working on comes from Joel Tan’s No Particular Order. We are grateful for the ARH space and members of the theatre community who are participating in this first cycle. Our Artistic Director , Vignesh Singh has been appointed as resident artist at @gatewayarts_sg until February 2023 . He will be centring his practice in red nose clowning and will be curating many events based upon this endeavour . There was a great turn out for the Buster Keaton movie night , featuring the 1923 classic , Three Ages.
