Last August, @totalcurtis spent 48 hours at the Riverside Brewery in Bakewell, Derbyshire, the home of @thornbridge . Here, he spent his time documenting a collaboration between Thornbridge and @theakstonbrewery , utilising an original Burton Union system. This is the story of how a vital piece of brewing history was saved, and why it’s important. Read it on our website now.

Last August I spent a day in Glen Fyne foraging with Dan Wye of @origins.brewing . I’ve written about the experience, and Dan’s fascinating approach to what he calls “wine chimeras” in my latest feature for @craftbeerbrew , which you can read online for free, right now (link in bio.) The resulting bounty of local blackberries and pineapple weed was used in a blend we’re releasing at @fynefest26 next month. Called “Uír” – Scots Gaelic for “Earth” its intention is to be a very delicious beer, with a true sense of place. I look forward to sharing a glass with some of you very soon. Here’s a few photos of the foraging day for you to enjoy.

To celebrate the launch of the second edition of Manchester’s Best Beer Pubs and Bars, Stockport’s @runawaybrewery have brewed up something special. Based on Chester’s “Fighting” Mild, which disappeared in the 1990s after consolidation forced the closure of its then-parent brewery. Man-Chester’s Mild is a 3.6% beer is packed with specialty malts and Bramling Cross hops, lending it notes of chocolate and coffee with a dry, peppery finish. It’s super schlonky, basically, and is available for a limited time in selected venues. Manchester’s Best is in all good bookshops now. In fact if you’re based in Stockport you could pick a copy up at @rare_mags and then wander down to Runaway for a pint of mild while you peruse the book. And before someone says “it’s from Salford”, Chester’s was originally based in Ardwick until it was taken over by Threllfall’s in 1966. You can see what was Threllfall’s original tower brewery when you take a train from Victoria to Salford, mercifully spared in the form of luxury flats.

In my latest columns for What’s Brewing from the @campaignforrealale I’ve written about some of the inspiration behind Manchester’s Best Beer, Pubs and Bars. Some pubs in Manchester hog the limelight, perhaps deservedly so, whether thanks to their spectacular glazed brickwork or gorgeous, if a little faded, vintage interior. One thing the book gives you the ability to do is head a little off the well-worn trail. Next time you’re in town why not dip into the Hare & Hounds, The Salisbury, or somewhere a little different? You can read the full column by finding the link in the usual place.
