This week’s guest on Too Late with Dave is Perou, creative director and master photographer of people: sports stars, actors, musicians, politicians, models and ordinary folks living extraordinary lives. Perou talks openly about his love of connecting to what makes people and the world they occupy unique. Along with insights into his creative process, we hear tales of shoots gone awry and ones that have produced award-winning imagery. From a chaotic night with Courtney Love, getting snarled at by Justin Bieber’s dad and asking Nigel Farage to eat worms. From his beginnings in the fetish scene to his many personal projects, documenting underpasses to his fear of clowns to name a few. Perou’s career is as varied and ambitious as his imagination.

This print from the vault was taken by the late photographer Clive Limpkin during what became known as the Battle of the Bogside.
Known as Derry Boy, this image was described by Limpkin himself as “the nearest thing I ever had to an iconic picture”.

Signed silver gelatin print of the Rolling Stones taken outside the Australian pub in Chelsea by Philip Townsend 1963. One of the first formal portraits of the band, commissioned by manager Andrew Loog Oldham before they signed their contract with Decca Records.

The stories behind some of the photographic treasures in the Too Late archive.
First up, Dave talks about his childhood fascination with the cover photo on an album in his dad’s record collection, years later meeting legendary photographer David Redfern who took it and acquiring the last available vintage Cibachrome print of it.
Bill Haley & His Comets with Al Rappa standing on his double bass, taken on the set of Thank Your Lucky Stars in 1964 and later used by Hallmark Records on a compilation album
