Ask and you shall receive! Thankyou for the many of you who responded wanting a night time version of "A House on Stilts". This is my first illustration at night and it has been an interesting journey exploring how "night" can be visually communicated without losing details, as well as how light would interact with the variety of surfaces in the setting. It was incredibly fun to draw, and it taught me many things I will apply in future (Architectural?) illustrations.

The power of people in narrative-led illustrations!
Previously the illustration was void of people, in order to bring the focus more on the architecture and landscape.
However, once introducing people into the image, it added a new dimension in communication. In this example, it introduced a narrative of key "intentional moments" within my proposal, a variety of interactions that create a sense of community as well as a suggestion of activities facilitated by the proposal's programme.
I believe it elevates the drawing, which has reminded me (again) of the importance of people in Architectural Illustrations. There may be future iterations with more people added!

Beyond drawing and illustration, I find a lot of pleasure in both making and designing. There is simply nothing as gratifying as the sensation of touching something that was originally a sketch/ thought in the mind.
Here are some of the things I get up to (when I have the time). You will see Architectural puzzles, models, lamp designs and (small) furniture.
I have an extensive history with additive manufacturing, but have begun exploring woodwork and subtractive manufacturing, which has brought a whole new logic in both design and production which has been exciting to explore.

The role of an Architectural Illustrator is surprisingly broad.
We can create detailed, high-level visuals for a last-minute competition, artwork for personal or commercial use, develop an idea in your mind, or even be a sounding board to help create an idea to pass on elsewhere.
This results in a vast array of illustrations, which can be detailed or even a quick, colourful sketch.
But what remains constant is everything being well-thought-out, intentional, and informative, conveying narratives and selling ideas in ways other media simply cannot.

All drawings use fineliner within my A5 sketchbook 📓 (I've filled 33 sketchbooks now).
They may not be the most technically proficient, or polished, but they certainly all achieve their primary goal - to visually communicate.
All live sketches were completed on site.

This drawing forms part of a series I am currently developing which revolves around Milton Keynes and its current issues with facilitating public transport. This proposal realises a modernised version of the original "dial-a-bus" proposal - on an demand, when and where required public transport service. The proposal demonstrates how it inserts itself within existing transport infrastructure, as well as the possible benefits to the public realm, local ecologies, and climatic resilience/ adaptation.
This illustration was also a little exploration in drawing people - which is also a key part in any architectural intervention.

"Dial-a-Bus: Reimagining MK's radical transport masterplan" (Placeholder title for now).
This is a conceptual illustration of a series I plan to produce over time, which reimagines and visualises the radical "dial-a-bus" system proposed in the original 1960s Milton Keynes Masterplan that was never achieved. It is the last proposal of the original masterplan yet to be completed in some form, and, as a result, MK now suffers with a public transport infrastructure that is slow, unsustainable and cannot meet demands of its residents.
The proposal hypothesizes a modern "dial when required" public transport system, how it could work alongside the existing transport infrastructure whilst enhancing the public realm, and improving the sustainability & climate adaptability of the city.
