From the Lake by @matthew_james_studio Land To Water - Y6 This view depicts the garden room nestled on the lakeside, presenting itself visually and physically to the lake. The connection between land and water is made through the projection of a small jetty and gutter reaching out over the lake, giving clear access to the water’s edge. - Tag @critday for a feature - #critday #itscritday #architecture #architectureschool #architecturestudent

Site and lean-to drawings, concrete pad animation by @lucia.3dm with Nolan Hill Located on Jamaica Bay in southeast Brooklyn, this project converts an old airport runway to an unconventional gateway campground for urban residents to engage with camping and nature. A softening border between tarmac and vegetation is evident on the site, producing an edge that runs eastward toward the ocean and creates a highly charged joint between two conditions. Our proposal disrupts this existing interference by creating a hybrid space in which the concrete pads of the tarmac are relocated into the rewilded area. This produces a pixellated system of circulation that opens up voids for plant life to creep back into the vast paved area. By cutting up and reusing existing concrete, the impact of the highest carbon footprint material is reduced while rewilding the massive tarmac. When moving these concrete pads, the previous pads become the pathway for construction equipment to place the next concrete pad. The concrete also acts as the footing for a winding rammed-earth spine that spans the site. Rising and falling from the ground, the spine creates semicircular nooks that support varied groupings of lean-tos with different degrees of enclosure, thermal buffering, and privacy. The construction of the lean-tos and berm are integrated, with elevated sleeping bunks rammed in and formwork supports reused in the lean-to structure. The berm also acts as an ADA ramp which provides access to the truss level of the comfort station, allowing campers to gather in the truss and on the roof. Fresh Food Market Final Model | 1/8” = 1’-0” by @gabrielhambrick_art & @mikahliu_arch @mikah_liu This mass timber fresh food market is organized around a continuous circulation sequence that guides visitors from the open market at ground level up to the rooftop gardens above. The spatial progression unfolds as follows: the ground-floor market leads to a culinary program via a ramp to the second level, continuing through an event space, classrooms, and offices. This sequence reconnects at a second-floor lobby before culminating in the rooftop garden. The site is defined by a series of terraced concrete plinths that shape the market experience while also forming a canal. During high tide, water enters this canal and contributes to passive cooling through evaporative processes. The building structure rises from these plinths through concrete footings, transitioning to timber V-columns above the Design Flood Elevation (DFE = 8’-0”). - Don’t forget to tag @critday on your post for a chance to be featured - #critday #itscritday #architecture #architecturestudent #architectureschool

The Public Ground by @chloec_arch & @quixitect . Professor @cblarch - ‘The Public Ground’ proposes a two-story community fresh market and learning center in the flood zone of Red Hook, Brooklyn, designed as a civic beacon for public access, education, community engagement, and sustainable food production. Rooted in existing site conditions, the design extends the waterfront park and pedestrian pathways into an open, 24/7 publicly accessible landscape. Textures drawn from Red Hook shape the landscape, blending the city, park, and market into a continuous experience. The market and greenhouses occupy the ground level along the waterfront, while canopies above, supported by a tree-like framework, shelter the public ground. Learning and support spaces are located on the second level, functioning as a flexible multipurpose interior, with more defined offices and classrooms. - Use @critday on your post for a chance to be featured. - #critday #itscritday #architecture #architecturestudent #architectureschool

Finishing the year off with this beauty! - Museums Beyond Walls - Bergkrystallen, Trondheim (NO) @europan_norway #europan Set in Leütenhaven / Midtbyen, this proposal responds to Europan’s call to transform a parking structure / former parking lot into an extroverted art museum - one that doesn’t just contain culture, but actively revitalises the historic centre and helps form a new cultural square in the city. The project brings together Trondheim’s two public art museums (Trondheim Art Museum + Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum / National Museum of Decorative Arts and Design) into a single, public-facing home - with the space, care conditions, and flexibility needed for exhibitions, outreach, events, workshops, and new audiences. Bergkrystallen riffs on Trondheim’s gabled roofscape and the idea of a “bergkrystal”: lifted gallery “crystals” emerging from a grounded base to shape a new civic arena. A central cultural spine becomes the main circulation route — a continuous public passage that stitches interior + exterior together, aligns with city paths + nearby institutions (including the Trøndelag theatre), and keeps the museum porous, accessible, and in motion. Diagrams in the carousel show: — how the “crystals” rise from the base to form roof + light + volume — how the spine connects multiple access points and builds an all-season public route — how section stacks programmes while keeping the ground plane open + generous (and how the existing parking structure can be adapted / reused) Collab: @kholtsmark x @architag_ x @mccloymuchemwa Images: @haze_viz - Tag @critday for a feature - #itscritday #critday #architecture #architecturestudent

Generative Morphologies, An Architecture Assemblage for Additive Decay by @sojc.visuals from @bartlettarchucl Instructors: @stetanlengen @benspong - Inspired by the design practice of ruination - an ode to the late Professor Jonathan Hill, the building stands as a timekeeper of the forest which acknowledges the ‘coproduction of multiple authors, whether human, non-human or atmospheric’ where the registration of calibrated and arbitrary moments of inhabitation and weathering are negotiated. A (building) skin marked by the echoes of its ‘cached objects’, the narrative of generative erosion is communicated through both occupation and climate - its nuances prompted and choreographed by the researcher’s rituals of rest and work. - Don’t forget to tag @critday for a feature! - #itscritday #architecture #architecturestudent #architectureschool
