Monte Vista Projects is proud to present Willed to be, a new installation by @srrysara and @stacey_calle_ .
Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, May 2nd, 7-10 pm
Sara Mehrinfar and Stacey Calle’s ideas of home have been fundamentally shaped by their upbringings as immigrants/children of immigrants from Argentina and Ecuador, respectively. These experiences have in turn shaped the artists’ new collaborative exhibition, Willed to be, on view for the first time at Monte Vista Projects. The title of the exhibition is a riff on the idiom “to will into existence.” Through the materials of flour, bread, and glass, Willed to be reflects on our ability—and the limits of our ability—to exert control over ourselves, our homes, and our realities more broadly.
Willed to be is on view from May 2 — May 24 at 1206 Maple Avenue, 5th floor, #523. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5pm and by appointment.
I’m performing a new sound piece this Saturday, Oct 4, at 5 pm at @listenfur : 5820 N Figueroa St, behind the Bearded Beagle. Come through!
Huge thanks to @dylsmack for curating this Heavy Metal Garden sound series and this particular show with @halloumi_heidi and @a.s.stagram . And thanks to @ryanbeckemeyer (who also made the amazing *printed* poster for this series, slide 1 and detail on slide 2!)
I have a piece at @tryst.la art fair this weekend! Come stop by Fri, Sat & Sun at Del Amo Crossing: 21535 Hawthorne Blvd, floor 3, in the @montevistaprojects gallery space, conveniently located near the bar 🍻⛺️
This piece is part of a larger body of work that’s still in development. It emerged out of a series of classes I taught last semester which themselves grew out of a small research studio I led — the Tent Research Group — focusing on the ideas of utopia, the body, and nomadology. The group included @tptanpan , @xformiracle and @l_baert , with appearances from @karl.zz.zzz and @air.is.soft <3 thanks to my mom for helping me sew 🪡
A philosophy course with a studio twist. Over six weeks, artist & educator @to5ar leads us through readings by Foucault, Deleuze, Hito Steyerl, and others—paired with weekly creative prompts that push you to respond through visual, video, or audio work.
Think: sonic landscapes of wilderness, visual maps of imagined futures, critical takes on utopia and the frontier. By the end, you’ll walk away with a body of new work shaped by deep ideas.

My show Anti-Frontier at @montevistaprojects closed a few weeks ago but I’m still basking in its afterglow. Thank you to everyone, friends, colleagues, and strangers who took the time to come out and see the installation and watch the video. It meant everything to me. Thank you to @georgecjensen_ and @dylsmack for their incredible sound performances during the closing of Anti-Frontier🙏 And thanks especially to @catkinson03 at @montevistaprojects projects, without whom this show would not have happened 🖤 🌵
