Episode 3 of The Lighting Plan:
David Auner AAC, member of the Austrian Association of Cinematographers, takes an 1801 painting from the Met and recreates it on film.
Portrait of Charlotte du Val d’Ognes. A young woman at a desk. A broken window. And one of the most popular studies in natural window light in art history.
David reverse-engineers the whole thing, the quality of the source, the softness, the contrast between the figure and that dark interior behind her. He then builds it with controlled lighting.
If you’ve ever looked at a painting and asked “how would I light that?” — this episode is for you.

Welcome to the second episode of The Lighting Plan, a series that follows the extraordinary talent and skill of photographers and cinematographers.
In today’s episode, we meet Jendra Jarnagin — an accomplished cinematographer whose work across television and feature films reflects a deeply thoughtful and intentional approach to lighting and visual storytelling.
Join her as she takes us through a masterclass on lighting faces, with specific attention to how the key light can be tailored to the unique structure and character of the subjects face. Through practical demonstrations and real-world examples, Jendra breaks down how subtle adjustments in key light placement, quality, and direction can be tailored to different facial structures and features.
The Lighting Plan is a masterclass-style educational series designed for cinematographers, photographers, and visual storytellers seeking practical, real-world insight into professional lighting techniques.
The Lighting Plan series was made possible by our sponsor GVM.

@tiffanyandco spot from a while back.
This was so fun to make, between working with birds under a giant birdcage, and a hand made Tiffany blue egg fabricated to break apart with a 10ct diamond ring inside. Just a challenge to shoot and a joy to make.
Come take a look at how @bhavanilee and I made “Mojave Dream”, a film to test the new @leitzcine #Hektor lenses.
