The annual pittancing ceremony @selbyabbey took place - as it has since at least the 1300s (albeit with some gaps). It was a lovely day. The signpost is up @selbytownhall from when we twinned Selby with Selby. Pittancing is the origin of why we give eggs at Easter and why the King gives out Maunday Money. The only place it still happens is #Selby #yorkshire and it’s a real joy to be part of it all. I’ve been told I’m now the longest serving Pittancer of Selby having gone past Brother Grainger’s record from the late 1300s. Roll on next year.

Throwback to the time @cbbc sent me to meet @iceman_hof and he taught me a tiny glimpse of his principles of ice survival. Then we ran across a north polar icecap in our pants - barefoot. Somewhere on @youtube there’s a video of this and the ensuing chaos. Looking back - my face says a lot…but goodness it was a fun time

Amazing news. An incredible donation of 1 million Euros from the Hermann Reemtsma Siftung (foundation) in Hamburg for the Guildhall. I remember this so vividly. We’d been somewhere on a tour and as ever the funniest show was off the stage with Paul. I miss you my dear dear friend. X ps this music was a mutual favourite.

Ahhh. Day at the ‘family’ race course. Horse came in at 8 to 1 - I know there are issues with racing sometimes but have so many happy memories of this place - it’s the site of the man vs horse race I did with @bbcradio4 - a lovely day.
The biggest Burns Night in America gets underway and after I went to a bar preceded by the piper! They are so brilliant and we always get served. Thanks too to Aston Martin for the sponsorship and lifts! What a night. Also there - my dear friend from university days our man in Washington - a star in my view - and what a speech.
