Journalism isn’t dead yet! In dream-come-true-type territory, I spent a caffeine-fuelled morning with @damonalbarn and @hewll , finding the pair beyond all comprehension of cool. We really delved into this new record, The Mountain, out Friday, and I found the pair of best mates, not only in excellent form, but meditative and mercurial, everything I could possibly desire as a writer interested in, before anything else, a unique and compelling story. For the 20th anniversary issue of @wonderland , I was blessed to profile two of British guitar music’s most quintessential acts, and more specifically, their enduring frontwomen. Whilst Rhian Teasdale of @wetlegband and Ellie Rowsell of @wolfaliceband are very different people, there’s plenty of similarities to how they see the world and their art. They both reject fame, have found a way to reinvent a seemingly monotonous musical formula, and have ushered their respective bands into making two of the best albums of the year. So excited to finally share a special project I’ve been working towards for months! Causing A Scene is an all new @rollacoaster feature that, each issue, will highlight a British music scene that has thrived and found its voice over the past decade or so, with the aim of documenting the movement’s past, present and future. Anyone who knows me knows that my love and affiliation to UK alternative rap goes well back to my @thepitldn days, and as such felt like the perfect place to start. It’s a scene that has found its stride in the past couple of years and is now one of the most exciting, experimental and important around. To help tell the story, I met and profiled some of alt rap’s key players and most colourful characters.
