Come join me next Tuesday, September 2nd at the Cinematheque! š¬āØāØWeāll be showcasing 7 original short films, followed by a Q+A panel and some fun awards.
Last year I put together my first Short Film Exhibition here in Vancouver - showcasing local artists, at a local theatre, supporting a local charity. What started out as a way to showcase my first short film amongst friends and family quickly ballooned into an actual event (which I had never done before). We sold out the Cinematheque and raised $1500 for the DTES Womenās Shelter ā¤ļø Dare I say it was maybe the best night of my life?? I dare.
This year, weāre back - bigger and better. The lineup is incredible, and I canāt wait for you to see what these filmmakers have made! Ahh! Wooh! Yeahhh!!!!
At the heart of it, this event is all about community. Local artists. Local theatre. Local charity. A space for people who make things simply for the sake of making them, and what a privilege it is to be but a small facilitator of that within my community. If that doesnāt tug on your heart strings to buy a ticket, I donāt know what will.
šļø Tickets in bio! All additional proceeds go to the DTES Womenās Shelter.
There is a balance between influencer and internet recluse when it comes to sharing your life/work online, and itās something I struggle with as very often I am the latter. However, Iām trying to get better at sharing my work and I think this is a great place to start!
This project pushed my storytelling muscles to the max and I have to thank @kiddo_films and @goodneighbour for that. Every project I take on I try to learn something new, and with this piece my biggest takeaway was really the art of collaboration and the trust and honesty needed to make those collaborations work. To end up with a cohesive project is an art form. There are some real great story moments in this piece Iām proud of, Iād love to hear from you if you check it out!
FAMILY explores the tension of safety and danger from a young adult who has lived on the intersection of the opioid crisis and gang culture.

It is with great honor that I wish my sister a happy birthday today! There is great unspoken pressure to be the best brother she can ask for, particularly when I have a twin, so literally another version of me to choose from instead. How do I give her the life advice she needs to flourish when I am still figuring my life out as well? When she comes to me in the middle of the night asking for financial advice, I can only tell her to do what I would do myself, right? Which, if youāre wondering, is recruit her and another guy, and then we get 3 people each. The more people that get involved, the more who are investing, and the more money weāre all going to make! Sounds almost too good to be true!ā¦But I digress, is that advice enough?? I donāt know. I really donāt know. Iām lucky that so much of her life, while she may think otherwise, is far more figured out than my life was at 22. She speaks her mind (sometimes even when no one is listening), she isnāt afraid to show her emotions, and consistently makes moves to better herself and those around her. She is also pretty stylish, but I think that comes from my advice. Happy birthday kiddo
I havenāt been able to get @boburnham latest Netflix special out of my mind since I saw it. The effort involved in making something entirely on your own, of that calibre, is truly amazing. So, here is EP. 3 of my bi-weekly/monthly series called āPlaying Guitar Poorly and Singing Even Worseā where in this episode Iāll be playing one of the songs from the film, āThat Funny Feelingā Enjoy!
The year is 2140, Iāve lived far longer than I ever planned, but my body is still young and spry. Iāve finally brought peace to the world and set up my family for success for generations to come. Then, and only then, will I decide to retire to a small seaside town in Spain by the name of Cadaques. I fish in the sea. I live off wine and bread and cheese. My lactose intolerance has been cured. My Spanish is bueno (thatās āgoodā in Spanish). My mind, body, and spirit finally feel the most elusive of emotions, ācontentā; a word some used to describe their state after a well cooked meal, or a Sunday spent relaxing on a lounge chair. For me it is salvation. This is the future I aspire to live in. They say love makes you want to keep a record of everything, for now, a record is all that I have of my time spent in Cadaques, and Spain as a whole, two summers ago. Until we meet again. Xoxo, gossip girl, Spencer
