Repost: @aquariumdrunkard This Heat :: Made Available: John Peel Sessions
“I get asked to play more music like This Heat, but to my knowledge there is no other music like This Heat” – John Peel
For 37 years, John Peel worked as a conduit, pulling unheard voices out of the static and setting them loose across the BBC dial. In 1977, one of those voices was This Heat, formed just a year earlier in a Camberwell rehearsal space. Frayed at the edges, with clipped rhythms pushed straight to broadcast, they didn’t sound like a band adapting to a Maida Vale studio so much as one ignoring the usual expectations of a radio session.
This Heat's first LP is one of the most perfectly realized experimental rock albums of the era and remains singularly modern. Nearly 50 years on, it is something the world has still not completely caught up with.
On June 12th we will reissue the 1979 self-titled album on vinyl in US and Canada, while the band via their own This Heat Records will handle the rest of the world. // link in profile // #thisheat #superiorviaduct
Repost: @robinrimbaud There are bands that shape a moment, and then there are bands that seem to shape the future. English experimental rock band This Heat (1976-1982) were unmistakably the latter. They were formed in London by multi-instrumentalists Charles Bullen, Charles Hayward and Gareth Williams. I still remember buying their debut album in about 1980 and can still listen to it today and be blown away by it. Their music almost felt like a transmission from somewhere ahead of its time, with tape experiments, fractured rhythms, political urgency, and a fearless approach to sound that blurred the lines between rock and pure sonic exploration. They only released two albums and an EP in their brief original run. Imagine Joy Division uniting with Bernard Parmegiani, whilst listening to PIL’s Metal Box and The Pop Group. They were dark, witty, unsettling, symphonic and aggressive. I never saw them live in their original days, but only when they briefly reformed with the playfully named This Is Not This Heat (2016-2019). I did, however, get to see The Camberwell Now (1982-1987), the group that splintered off from This Heat and they were truly awe inspiring live. Their music remains radical, handmade, questioning, and deeply human all at once, and proof that refusing to follow the rules can certainly lead to some absolutely unforgettable magic!

50 years to the day — Friday, 13th February 1976 — we played our first gig, where we recorded the improvised track Rainforest, that later appeared on our 1979 self-titled debut album.

The Sky Was A Mouth Again - Various Artists (DOW009)
Following the powerful statement of 2024’s Hunger Is Violence compilation in aid of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Diet of Worms returns with a new international release in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
This time, the project reaches beyond Ireland’s borders, bringing together an eclectic group of international artists to reinterpret one of music’s most mythic and enigmatic songs: Louie Louie.
Titled The Sky Was a Mouth Again, the compilation is a bold reimagining of Richard Berry’s 1955 garage anthem - a song that has echoed through decades of protest, censorship, and counterculture.
Across continents and genres, artists have responded to the track with interpretations that are urgent, fractured, defiant, and deeply moving.
Available on limited-edition cassette and digital download via Diet of Worms Bandcamp on July 21st 2025, the compilation features striking cover art by Irish artist Cian Walker @_cian_walker_
