A year ago, we wrapped a short documentary, titled What We Show Them, about a small-town school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho—Valley View Elementary. Built in 1949 from salvaged WWII materials, the school has cracks in the walls, a leaky roof, and rusted plumbing. It’s not just outdated—it’s unsafe. Today, we are incredibly proud to share that the film has been selected as a finalist for a The Webby Awards.

In the chaos of hurricanes and the quiet moments of healing, our DoPs @mackwoodruff and @dylanwineland and AC’s @marcuscatlett and @briandurkee brought a rare eye to the frame—equal parts grit and grace. They carried cameras through wind-torn towns and into still, human spaces. Never forcing the shot. Just listening. Just watching. Proud to stand behind this film and the people who made it possible.

Amazing to see our short film blossom in this way 🙏 From @variety — How the Documentary ‘Call to Serve’ Spotlights Veterans Working in Disaster Relief: ‘If You Help Other People, You Heal Yourself Along the Way’ As Hurricane Helene made landfall in the Southeast U.S. last fall, filmmakers Phil Hessler and Cole Sax were tracking a group of veterans — the @teamrubicon “Greyshirts” — who deploy into disaster zones to help however is needed. Hessler and Sax capture that reality in their new short documentary “Call to Serve,” which debuted at the Tribeca Festival. Sax and Hessler, who run the Salt Lake City, Utah-based production company @thinkless.studio , were recruited to the project by a former colleague, @laurenvraz , who now works as manager of stakeholder advocacy, purpose and trust communications at Ford Motor Company. @ford and its charitable division, Ford Philanthropy, have worked with Team Rubicon since 2017.

“Every so often you get a chance to tell a story, and when you get that opportunity, I always do my best to put the story first. I try not to overthink the craftsmanship of the production and remind myself to focus on the emotion and essence of the story.
