Salford’s Lowry Auditions for young movers who would love to train in dance at Lowry from September 2026 with Lowry Centre for Advanced Training (Lowry CAT).
Lowry are calling for young people who are passionate about dance and interested in exploring this art form further, even pursuing a career in dance.
The Lowry CAT offers weekly intensive training throughout the year in Contemporary Technique and other dance techniques including ballet, plus workshops in choreography, improvisation, health & wellbeing, injury prevention,contextual studies, Pilates.
In addition, dancers are offered the unique opportunity to work creatively to develop their artistic and creative skills not only during their weekly sessions but with professional dance companies & artists in intensive workshops and courses.
As part of the MDS funding, a number of means-tested grants are available for families, allowing the widest possible access across the North West region.
The training programme has a highly successful track record, graduates from the course have gone on to study dance at major UK conservatories & vocational schools including: London Contemporary Dance School (The Place); Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance; the Northern School of Contemporary Dance; Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance; Central School of Ballet; Bird College of Performing Arts.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Dave, our Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) dance artist into the studio today to work with our Yr10 GCSE dancers. They enjoyed a challenging technique class followed by some creative work and learned all about the national pre-vocational dance training programme.
Former CAT students include Megan Bruce Yr9, Eva Molyneaux Yr11, Erin Surtees Yr11 and Emily Wild Yr11 who is currently in her third year.

The Sir Rod Aldridge Trailblazer Award Winner!
Huge congratulations to Lowry CAT alumni & Emergence performer Kyle Baron who has been given this amazing award for 2026! Kyle will receive financial, practical and mentorship support from the team at Lowry to support the next stage in his dance career.
Kyle has shown determination and resilience to pursue a career in the industry despite significant challenges along the way. We’re incredibly grateful to Sir Rod Aldridge for giving Kyle this opportunity and look forward to supporting him to grow as a dance professional!
Optional Class CAT Superstars 🌟
Alongside our students core training at CAT we also offer optional classes which challenge them to experiment, learn and develop in different movement styles and genres expanding their knowledge, training and passion beyond contemporary dance!🌟

This year we delivered our 17th event! From our first one day festival in 2009, to what is now our epic 2 day extravaganza & hosting the national festival in 2016; I’ve seen the festival grow in strength & energy year on year & it’s loved by all who take part!
Big love to all the festival producers, Lowry teams & volunteers past and present who bring new energy and passion each time to keep the festival thriving; to all the amazing dance leaders & guest artists for their hard work in supporting young people in their dance journey; the 4000 young dancers, many of which are now dance leaders themselves! And of course our gorgeous relationship with One Dance UK who lead the national event and who it’s been a pleasure to work with over so many years.
I absolutely love this event and I can’t wait to see it continue to be part of my teams work and an important part of the NW youth dance calendar for years to come 💙

Back in January, some of our talented CAT students took to the AO Arena stage for The National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals 2026 hosted by @jasonmanford !
Tune in to @BBC One and @BBCiPlayer this Saturday 28 March at 7:45pm to see our students perform a special @Disney medley, honouring the incredible @alanmenken 💫
The breathtaking performance was choreographed by @garylloydme assisted by @_laurengore and features incredible vocals and music from the ever talented @luciejones1 , @lady_mae_ann , @astonishingtrev , @rncmlive and @nymtuk – alongside dancing from our amazing students!
