It’s been a fantastic year for our Young Projects, with so many young musicians developing their skills through our workshops.   Our final workshop of the year took place last month, bringing together Young Harps, Young Basses, Young Violas and Young Electric Basses for a celebratory performance.   Joined by tutors and student mentors, the players learned and performed music from Matilda in a brilliant showcase of their progress and the confidence they’ve built throughout the year.   Sign-ups will open for our 2026/27 workshops over the Summer, watch this space for details.

Still feeling inspired by Bridging Worlds at RCM last week ✨ It was a real joy to bring together @royalalberthall Associate Artists @rushilmusic and @abisampa with students from @rcmlondon , @trinitylaban , @rncmlive and @thesunshineorchestra (Chennai, India). Conductors, composers, instrumentalists and dancers collaborated to explore how Western and non‑Western classical traditions can meet, resulting in an evening of bold new creative ideas filled with music and movement. Swipe through these photos to relive a brilliant moment for our wider music education community 🎶💃🌍 📷 Andy Paradise @paradiseph0t0

Cello but from the Mariana Trench 🦑 Cee Haines aka CHAINES talks us through how they processed @laura.vd.heijden ’s acoustic and electric cellos for their haunting new piece, ‘oysters sing of silkworms’. As well as composing and processing electronics for our show with @thicktightdance Papillons, they also created the spectrogram you can spot in this video 🌈 They’re also researching and teaching electro-acoustic and video game music at @rncmlive 🎓 Which is also the last stop on our tour, and your final chance to hear this piece live (for now)! Book for Saturday evening via the link in bio.

This week we were delighted to welcome David Fennessy as part of our In Focus series. Each year, this series invites trailblazing composers to the RNCM. Behind the scenes, they work closely with our staff and students, culminating in a performance with Manchester Contemporary Orchestra. Congratulations to all of our student composers who premiered new work at this event. 📸 @robinclewleyphotography

A brilliant learning experience for RNCM brass players and conducting students last week, collaborating with @thefaireyband in a side-by-side concert.   The RNCM Brass Ensemble joined forces with @thefaireyband musicians in a powerful performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.   Student brass quintet @paramount_brass had the opportunity to work with the band on Derek Bourgeois’ Concerto for Brass Quintet and Brass Band.   We also enjoyed two world premieres from student composers performed by the RNCM Brass Ensemble.
