As @manchestermarathon runners powered past the RNCM on Sunday, our students were ready at mile 25 with a boost to carry them to the finish line 🏁🔥 @paramount_brass and @fractalsaxes provided the soundtrack between cheering on the runners at the final stretch. Well done to everyone who took part, and good luck to those taking on the London Marathon this weekend!

Next up for #pjibec26 #pjibec, from Manchester, UK, is @paramount_brass Formed in 2023 at the Royal Northern College of Music, Paramount Brass are an up-and-coming brass quintet made up of Lewis Barton and Honor Farley on trumpet, Sam Froggatt on horn, Nathan Joseph on trombone, and Ben Russon on tuba. Based in Manchester, the group have enjoyed a successful first few years together, performing recitals across the North at various venues including Manchester Cathedral, Leeds Cathedral, and Leeds Royal Armouries, as well as playing at Old Trafford football stadium on ITV’s This Morning with Soccer Aid. The quintet also regularly lead educational workshops and assemblies in Manchester and Cumbria as part of the RNCM’s Brass Engage programme. In 2024 and 2025, they were finalists in the RNCM Philip Jones Brass Chamber Music Prize, after a ‘glorious and dramatic performance’, and they look forward to performing Derek Bourgeois’ Concerto for Brass Quintet and Brass Band at RNCM with the KNDS Fairey Band this April. The group are excited to continue to perform together throughout the rest of their studies and beyond.

Last week we joined over 100 children in Workington to celebrate the mid-point of RNCM Engage West Cumbria. Student Ambassador and member of @paramount_brass , @honorfarleytpt brought us along for the trip. 🚐 🎺 Made possible by a transformational philanthropic gift from the Benny Walker Charitable Trust, RNCM Engage West Cumbria is responding directly to the needs of local communities, and aims to ensure that every young person can explore and enjoy music, regardless of background or circumstance. Find out more through the link in our bio.

We’re delighted to welcome Sam Froggatt on French horn 📯 Sam is an alumnus of Chetham’s School of Music, and now a fourth-year student at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was awarded a scholarship to study under the tutelage of Julian Plummer. He has played in several national youth ensembles and has performed at venues such as the Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and Cadogan Hall.
