Sunday, May 17 at 3:00pm Loothing for Dollars: Moses McKinley and Guitar Czar Repair: A Phoenix Rising Moses is no stranger to the Loothing for Dollars series We first met Moses McKinley in February of 2023 to talk shop and crisis management at the Guitar Czar repair shop. He has also lent his perspective and expertise to a number of roundtable discussions on the series since then. In this episode, we’re catching up with Moses to discuss his move from employee to owner. When the original Guitar Czar retail store announced its closure, Moses seized the opportunity to acquire the repair business and keep its legacy alive. Join us for a look at the transition, the road ahead for this new venture, his new shop, and a full tour of the new space! We'll dig deep on this one and discuss it all. You don't want to miss this one! Sunday! May 17, 3pm (eastern time). Only on The Looth Group! @theloothgroup 🎸 #guitarspecialist #guitarrepair #loothingfordollars #luthier #loothing

Refret prep. It's worth noting how much work there is in a refret that isn't removing or installing frets. Can I get a hell yeah from my looth peeps? #loothingmyreligion #itspronouncedgwelf #guelphsmallbusiness #guitarrepair

Glueing shims on a dovetail can be frustrating. So I built this little jig inspired by one I saw Doug @guitarspecialistinc using in his shop on one of the many super informative videos that he has on @theloothgroup It’s pretty crazy how many ideas I’ve gotten by being a member. #guitarrepairchesapeake #glueupdujour #luthiersofinstagram #loothing #guitarmaker

One of the main rules of the @theloothgroup is no looth-on-looth violence, and it’s a good one. But what about constructive criticism? This month’s Acoustic Guitar Builder’s Club will focus on a constructive critique on luthier built guitars from a tech point of view. What are the most common pitfalls? What should we look out for? Join me, Jonathan @chisels_n_picks and Todd @tlguitars for what promises to be a lively conversation! May 13th at 1pm EST, on the loothgroup! #lutherie #guitar #guitarbuilding #critique

💃🏼Finally! I've seen various colleagues describe their Gibson headstock repair jigs for years, and finally had a headstock break come in that necessitated me to finally make one. Thanks, @theloothgroup , with a shoutout to @anythingwithfrets and @balam_workshop . #loothingmyreligion #nastybreak #sketchylocationgreatservice #itspronouncedgwelf #guelph

Everything it’s cracked up to be... The Proper’s Guitar Workstation makes every repair job easier. This Martin dreadnought had a long grain crack running from the nut shelf down the neck—a fix that demands keeping the crack open to inject hot hide glue, then clamping it shut before the glue cools. ⏱️ The Proper’s Guitar Workstation from @totalvise is the perfect tool to make this process go smoothly. Here, I’m using the peghead support as a reverse clamping caul to hold the crack open during the injection. With the Crossover Docking Station I can position the guitar so that gravity works for me while the glue works it's way into the open crack. Once released and clamped, the workstation allows me to pivot and re-orient the guitar to any position on the fly, making the squeeze-out cleanup effortless. We’re a Total Vise Shop because I wouldn’t trust your guitar—or my reputation—to anything less than the most versatile guitar workstation system ever built. Jeff and I designed the Proper’s Guitar Workstation so you could position a guitar into virtually any conceivable alignment without having to twist yourself into a pretzel. 🥨 Honestly, I can’t even imagine trying to tackle a job like this hovering over a guitar lying on a bench anymore. If you’re still hunched over, counting down the minutes until your next chiropractor appointment, don’t you think it’s time you called Jeff over at @totalvise ? 😉 Your back (and your repairs) will thank you Isn't it time you made your shop a Total Vise Shop? Is there a link between wood hardness and its stiffness? Maple is stiffer than spruce, right? 🤔 A common belief is that harder woods are more rigid than soft ones. In this episode of Misconceptions in Lutherie, Martino and Simone will talk about wood stiffness and how to measure it in a luthier’s workshop to determine quantitatively if one piece of wood is stiffer than another. @theloothgroup @bashkin_guitars @martinoquintavalla_liutaio @wood_n_tones #hubofacoustics #guitarmaker #guitarbuilding #woodworking #guitaracoustics

Here’s a tool I came up with a while back that’s been refined by some smarter guys than me at @theloothgroup and is now available from @_loothtool_ It allows you to go free range with the Fret Press Caul from @stewmac_guitar instead of being attached to an arbor press or a drill press. Thanks to everyone from The Looth Group’s hive mind who helped with this! #luthiersofinstagram #loothing #guitarmaker

Now that is a good lookin geetar if I do say so myself 🕺🤠 This is my new parlor model, still yet unnamed and I’m open to suggestions! Also the second guitar I’ve built from the Basking Ridge Oak. Sounds fantastic. Adirondack spruce top and figured walnut neck. I’m very happy. This one is drippy. #guitar #guitarbuilding #woodworking #luthiery #baskingridge
