I dont post here much anymore but occasionally something comes into the workshop that really deserves a post! I refretted this 1926 Gibson Mastertone for Gerry O'Connor last week. It was a real honour to be trusted with it. It turned out nicely! And it sounds really sweet. #tenorbanjo #trad #irishtrad
💃🏼Finally!
I've seen various colleagues describe their Gibson headstock repair jigs for years, and finally had a headstock break come in that necessitated me to finally make one.
Thanks, @theloothgroup , with a shoutout to @anythingwithfrets and @balam_workshop .

My buddy @emmanuel.stone.guitars built this guitar for @wearevillagers around a decade ago. Its toured the world and had some classic songs written on in that time. Conor and Emmanuel entrusted it to me after a nasty neck break as Emmanuel was deep in a guitar build and didnt have time to get it done himself. It got fixed with a mahogany backstrap. The mahogany was salvaged from a classic car restoration and donated to me by a customer.
Met Jean Marie of @superrealguitarworks in his workshop in Renne. The 5th member of the @theloothgroup I've met in real life! Thanks for the Coffee and Biscuits!!
Had the absolute pleasure of meeting @anythingwithfrets Conor yesterday. We’ve been virtual friends for a while now via @theloothgroup but there’s no substitute for getting to poke around someone’s workshop in person!
The visit was a short one because in addition to be an amazing luthier, Conor is also a fireman and got an emergency call while I was there. Some people make you feel like you’re slackin’ 😅
Lovely to meet you Conor. Pretty sure that won’t be the last time we hang out!
This has been in the workshop for a few weeks. Its a Cittern or "English Guitar" from around 1770. Its definitely the oldest instrument I've worked on. The fingerboard had been replaced by someone else. I refreted it and made a new nut and modified the non original bridge with a new bone cap. The original fingerboard had holes in it for what I think were screwed in capos. I'm not sure if this was a modification or not. The tuning mechanism is unlike anything I've seen before. Little hooks are mounted on a threaded rod and turned with a tiny key. Anyway its pretty cool. #cittern #loothing
