💟 Decided to ride the D on a random afternoon. After eating lunch on Melrose, my friend and I walked down La Brea and rode the D over to the Tar Pits. I’ve lived in LA a looooong time and I had never been to the LA Tar Pits before! It was really beautiful and educational. We also popped by the Academy Museum and peeked into the Peterson Automotive Museum. So much to see at just one stop. Looking forward to exploring more on @metrolosangeles 🚊 @thelabreatarpits

🪶 Fine feathered fossil birds found at the #TarPits!
The number of bird bones recovered from Rancho La Brea is particularly noteworthy. Like those of most small animals, bird bones are rare in fossil deposits because their delicate structure reduces the chances of preservation.
With roughly 140 species represented in the Collections, most still exist today, while 23 have gone extinct.
What will you discover? Book your visit today at TARPITS.org.
Did you know over a hundred thousand plant fossils have been recovered at the #TarPits?
Fossil plant material from Rancho La Brea consists of wood, leaves, cones, seeds, and microscopic remains of diatoms. Some material came from plants in the immediate area, while others show evidence of being transported by floodwaters or streams.
Solar panels on their heads. Mammoth bones behind them. The past and the future in one frame. #SundayFunday #Solar #CarbonFree
#SolarPunks dressed as solar energy at the Climate Dance Party at La Brea Tar Pits last night, a special thank you to LA Climate Week. Because sometimes you have to show up as the solution you want to see in the world. @thelabreatarpits@laclimateweek
NHMLAC President and Director Dr. Lori Bettison-Varga put it plainly: those animals went extinct because of humans and fire. Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson thanked this crowd for showing up to make sure our future is not relics of the past. @ayanaeliza
“We can have the world we want, but we have to build it.”
Pick up her book, What If We Get It Right? Visions of Climate Futures, and imagine what getting it right looks like for your city.
Dr. Johnson, Pasadena has the @gamblehouse , @brooksideattherosebowl , @rosebowlstadium , @rosebowlinstitute , @therbac , @thehuntingtonlibrary , @usc_pam , @caltechedu , @creec_626 , @kidspacemuseum to name a few and a community that shows up. We would love to host you for a Climate Dance Party of our own.
@pasadena_100 is working toward 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030. Climate action is not abstract. It is a dance party in a museum full of bones, choosing to believe we can still get this right. #Resolution9977
Stay tuned. And tag someone who would show up dressed as a climate solution.
