🌱 #MondayMotivation Community Action for Climate & Education 🌱 @creec_626 What do rising temperatures, wildfires, water scarcity, and respiratory illnesses have in common? They all threaten our well-being right now, and they’ll only get worse if we don’t stop burning coal and gas. The time for bold, local climate action is now. Pasadena Water & Power still uses fossil fuels to power our homes and businesses, but thanks to YOUR support, Pasadena 100 helped push the City Council to adopt a goal: 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030. That’s huge, but it’s not enough. We need action, not just goals. We need solar, storage, and a stronger grid. That’s why we’re also standing in solidarity with our friends at CREEC (Climate Resilience Environmental Education Center). On Monday, May 12 at 3:00 pm, the City Council’s Finance Committee will review who can operate the Hahamongna Watershed Park Annex. CREEC wants it to be an environmental education center, exactly what our community needs to educate and empower the next generation of climate leaders. 📍 Pasadena City Hall, Council Chambers 🗓️ Monday, May 12 at 3:00 PM 🤝 Show up. Speak out (or just stand strong). Whether it’s transitioning our power or transforming our parks, your voice and your presence matter. Let’s build a resilient, carbon-free Pasadena, together. 💪🌎 #Pasadena100 #CREEC #ClimateAction #CarbonFreeBy2030 #Hahamongna #EnvironmentalJustice #LocalPower #MondayMotivation

Congratulations to the Cal Poly Pomona Master’s of Landscape Architecture Arroyo Team! Seeing the dedication, conviction, and hope poured into envisioning a wilder and more natural Arroyo Seco energized our spirits at CREEC. There are so many actionable propositions and designs we as a community want to see come to fruition from this thesis presentation.

🌍 #WednesdayWisdom from @pasadena_100 🌍 This past Saturday, we hosted a powerful presentation by Cynthia Cannady at the Linda Vista Branch Library: “Saving Our Lives and Our Children’s Future in a Time of Climate Crisis.” Cynthia, an attorney, educator, and climate advocate, laid out the science, the stakes, and the clear path to 100% carbon-free electricity in Pasadena by 2030. 🔥 Climate chaos is already here: — 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded — Ocean temps off Florida hit 101.1°F — Wildfires and extreme weather are escalating, including here in Altadena and Pasadena — The cost of inaction is far greater than the investment in solutions 💡 Pasadena is uniquely positioned to lead: ✅ We own our utility (PWP)—local control = local power ✅ By 2030, 83% of our electricity can come from imported solar, wind, and geothermal ✅ The remaining 17% must come from: • Rooftop & community solar ☀️ • Battery storage 🔋 • Smart grid tech + energy conservation ⚡ • Demand response & time-of-use strategies 📈 And yes, it’s affordable. • Solar is now cheaper than gas • Pasadena retains the most generous Net Energy Metering (NEM 1) policy in California • Adaptive reuse + clean energy = climate action and smart real estate 💬 As Cynthia said: “We are on a highway to climate hell, with our foot still on the accelerator.” But Pasadena has an off-ramp. Let’s take it, together. 📩 Interested in the full PowerPoint presentation? DM us and we’ll send it to you. #Pasadena100 #CleanEnergy #CarbonFreeBy2030 #ClimateAction #CynthiaCannady #SolarPower #NetZero #WednesdayWisdom #SustainablePasadena #CommunitySolar #GreenRealEstate #PWP #AdaptiveReuse #PasadenaClimateAction

🌿✨ Celebrating Our Advocates and the Future of Pasadena ✨🌿 Here’s the first photo of our beloved Chair of @pasadena_100 , Cynthia Cannady, and Rev. Tera Landers, Pastor at Throop Unitarian Universalist Church, taken at this morning’s Eco-breakfast hosted by @throopuupas , featuring the Climate Resilience Environmental Education Center (CREEC) @creec_626 We’re excited about CREEC’s work to bring the Annex at Hahamongna Watershed Park into its full potential as an environmental education center, and we’re thrilled to support their efforts in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness. 💚 Speaking of environmental action, Pasadena 100 is continuing to push for the 100% carbon-free energy we need! Join us Tuesday, April 8th at 4:00 PM at Pasadena City Hall to hear from PWP about the choices that will help us reach, or fall short of, our goal for 100% clean energy by 2030. 🌞 💡 One of the key topics will be rooftop solar energy. PWP will address a critical statewide issue, but we want to make one thing clear: we need to make rooftop solar energy easier, faster, and more affordable for all Pasadenans. The success of our carbon-free future depends on a significant increase in rooftop solar. Let’s come together to advocate for a more sustainable, clean energy future for Pasadena! 💚 #Pasadena100 #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #RooftopSolar #ClimateAction #CREEC #Pasadena

We have fun here at CREEC! We had a productive meeting with Councilmember Tyron Hampton this week discussing how CREEC can push forward the community's need for a nature education center that has only become more prevalent now- and how it can align with the City of Pasadena.

Just like our planet's climate crisis, CREEC doesn't take a day off- even when it means taking our group call in between sandbagging and shoveling water after the most recent storm flooded our facilities and private residences. We are actively working to keep prioritizing our community's wellness while pushing forward our efforts to finally activate the Annex space as the Environmental Education Center.
