North Pacific humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) migrate thousands of kilometers from northern feeding grounds to warmer waters like Japan to breed and raise their young.
Spent several days with a mother and calf pair. We named the calf Lucky after locals told us how rare it was to see whales every day for a week following a month with none.
Intentionally shot on expired film, then immersed in seawater after photographing them. A lucky outcome.
