The Burning Hell

It’s been four magical weeks of touring “Everything Is Great” around Ireland, Germany and the UK with @carsieblanton @_joeplo_ and @arielsharratt …. The only way it could have gone better would be if we’d finally succeeded in overthrowing capitalism by the end (but you can’t say we didn’t try, and it just means we’ll have to do it again). This has been such a natural and joyful collaboration that it’s impossible to believe we didn’t even know each other until a short while ago. We have the exact same hobbies and interests (dogs, swimming in the sea, class war) and you couldn’t ask for more generous, supportive, creative and truly kind people to share a van, a studio and a stage with. This isn’t the end for this project - in fact we’ll be doing a one-off special version of this show back where we all met at the @sourisshowhall on June 16 before we back up Carsie and Joe for a handful of dates supporting @billybraggofficial around the Maritimes. And we have another big announcement coming soon, plus some ambitious plans involving puppets and possibly castles. Closed City, a collaborative project by Mathias Kom and Michael Cloud Duguay, release their self titled album today. The album takes as its subject the Soviet-era closed cities — deliberately isolated settlements removed from official maps, built around military and industrial operations, their residents sworn to secrecy. Duguay’s music draws on experimental metal, drone, musique concrète, and low brass arrangements; Kom’s lyrics construct an unnamed city whose inhabitants have long forgotten why they are there.
