The reviews are in! “It’s nice. Really nice. Big article, too!” A massive shoutout to @c_carys99 for her really nice, thoughtful, and seductively raw cover story highlighting the literary scene in Austin and small presses @redlightlit @awstpress and @hostpublications . Her solidarity with writers was a much needed reminder of the power of community🫶 Link in bio to read the story in @austinchronicle where I had the opportunity to talk with Carys oh-so-candidly about poetry, pleasure, and surviving as an artist in #atx. Grateful beyond words for RLL founder and editor @jenniferlewiswrites for my dream job and all the opportunities it’s brought. I’ll never forget this one 💖🥹 Big love and thanks for all the energy and support from everyone who’s ever read, played, performed, or made it out for a #redlightlitaustin performance or open-mic. You make the literary scene in Austin more deliciously alive with every word you share. As we continue to figure out the “how,” y’all have always been and continue to be the answer to the “why.” Can’t wait to share a stage with you again💋 Oh, and can’t thank @john_jack_anderson enough for the killer captures. My eyes are open and everything!

Red Light Lit Press is proud to announce the publication of its fourth book and third single-author poetry collection: The Body Can Tolerate by Loria Mendoza. This release marks @textualseduction ’s second published work and her debut full-length poetry collection. The Body Can Tolerate is a hauntingly intimate poetry collection that explores the body as both a witness and a vessel — a place where personal pain and generational trauma echo through every cell. Navigating the liminal space between past and present, memory and dissociation, these poems trace the fractured paths of inheritance, love, loss, and the quiet, aching work of survival. With language as scalpel and salve, the collection reckons with what we carry, what we bury, and what we dare to release. It’s a raw meditation on what it means to be haunted while still alive — and the radical act of healing that begins when we finally listen to the ghosts. Loria Mendoza(she/they) is a queer Chicanx writer, curator, and multidisciplinary artist rooted in Austin, Texas. Their passion for the arts, equity, and collaboration led them to pursue an Honors Degree from Swarthmore College and an MA and MFA in English/ Creative Writing at San Francisco State University. Their work has been published in various journals and performed on stages across the U.S. Their book, Life’s Too Short, won the Michael Rubin Book Award, and their debut book of poetry, The Body Can Tolerate, is forthcoming from Red Light Lit Press. They are the curator and host of Red Light Lit Austin, co-founder of the Austin Arts Foundation and Propaganda Headquarters, and a big time believer in the healing power of storytelling, community, and love. #bookrelease #thebodycantolerate #loriamendoza #redlightlitpress #redlightlit #poetry #poetrycollection #summer2025 #austin #redlightlitaustin #supportsmallpress #smallpresspoetry #poetrycommunity

Just chatted with @voyageaustin about poetry, art, and growing up a book-loving weirdo in Austin. We got into how I found my way into the arts and why community is everything. Read the full interview at the link above! Let’s keep making weird, beautiful things together, Austin. 📸 by @leah.creative .

Come by the Austin Central Library Saturday for the Greater Austin Book Fest and grab some books! I’ll have a table where you can grab my book of stories, Life’s Too Short and my book of poetry, The Body Can Tolerate and even some rare chapbooks. Then at 3:30 I have the immense honor of facilitating the LGBTQIA+ panel where we’ll be talking queer language, desire, memory, and of course, discussing our favorite scholastic book fair swag (why aren’t bookmarks scented anymore??) Hope to see you there!

The raw, unknown joy— being witness to you and our new and beautiful life My forever is now a desperate feast of perfect moments— wind in your hair; filtered light dancing across your small moon-like face The world continues: small urgencies, grave injustices. Life and death. But here: the trees have grown new leaves. What a miracle Ignoring every text until a year has passed Oh, what a gift to know life, love— to leave another poem unfinished to spend precious time with you #mothersday

Well, hello. My name is Loria and I’m a writer and artist. I have two books out and poetry published in some cool publications and anthologies, and an original piece of art called “Amor Si Existe” hanging in the Capitol of Texas. I have an MA and MFA in writing and teach Composition and Literary Studies at ACC. In my spare time, I think about things like love and good writing and how they might save the world (the poet to activist/ activist to poet pipeline tho). I curate and host the Austin chapter of @redlightlit , a performance series and small press dedicated to creative work centering love, relationships, sensuality, and gender. This Sunday I’ll be leading a free workshop from 3-5pm at Austin Central Library where we will read and write about revolutionary love (still a couple of spots left, link in bio) before Red Light Lit Austin meets at a secret location downtown (comment ❤️and I’ll send you the coordinates) at 6 pm. With poetry by @ryanrutkoskie (!), @millieux (!), and yours truly, followed by an open mic. Come hang, listen, or read, and buy a Red Light Lit Tote bag hot off the press from @uniqueprints . All proceeds go towards @raicestexas , a local org providing legal aid and advocacy to children and families detained in D*lley Detent*on Center. Get in sweetie, we’re dismantling systems of injustice with poetry and love 💋 This project is supported in part by an Elevate Grant of Austin Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment.
