An accordion, a mandolin and a tin whistle tramp across a windswept landscape at the head of a parched and tired column - until a nightingale bursts into song, filling the countryside with colour, drawing everyone nearby to join in, round piano and campfire - Timothy Winters! Johnny One-Note! A host of angels! The troops and patrols of the Boy Scouts’ Movement! It’s a great knees-up, with karoake and yodelling, with drumming and dulcimers.
Singing makes you feel good. It releases endorphins. It floods the body with serotonin and dopamine. It brings oxygen. It increases memory. It draws people together.
And the harmonies! The harmonies can become woven so tight, so tight that they can repel even oil!
And so tight that they can repel, too, those who say they can’t sing. And if you can’t sing, where else do you go? You go to Singing School!
