It’s been almost two years since Steve passed. He is missed but his creation and legacy are thriving. Last photo I took in December’23.
We lucked into a great playback head to replace our burned-out original. Not gonna have a better playback than this.

While recording The Charmer, Clark quietly documented the sessions at Electrical Audio — one BMPCC 4K, a GoPro, tripods moved between takes, filming in the margins while the band worked fast.
“At times it was tough to balance making the record with filming the session, but the record always came first… I didn’t revisit the footage until long after Steve’s passing. It was a bit of a mindfuck to look at it again. He was always welcoming when my cameras were out… tirelessly focused on the work but also relaxed, stimulating and hilarious.”

This is how I like to capture vocals through amps quickly, while keeping the clean vocal mic separated. Since the mic’s path to the preamp is unbroken, you can do this with phantom powered mics as well!

Last Sunday I was invited to go up to @electricalaudio in Chicago to see @moderndrugsband record their upcoming record! I just happened to take like 3 cameras and a shit ton of film with me duhhhhh. It was so cool to see my insanely talented friends do their thing in this amazing space.
I’ve got to hear them play these songs live now a few times, but something about being in the studio with them when recording got me so fucking excited to hear it all over again. This was such an insane experience and I’m so excited for you all to hear this amazing music that my friends are putting out there to hear.
I’ve said this shit before and I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face, Champaign/Urbana has such a rich and talented music scene and if you haven’t experienced yet you need too.

Electrical Audio in Open House Chicago was a highlight this year
Steve Albini built it to sound better than anywhere else. Adobe bricks from New Mexico. Nirvana, The Pixies, and PJ Harvey, all left ghosts in these walls.
Albini passed in 2024, and this is the first time the public’s ever been allowed inside. See what you missed here.
