It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to be UK co producers on the film critics are calling “a tender, gripping portrait” and a “moving tribute” to an icon of Irish literature, and undoubtedly one of the greatest writers of our time.
If you’ve yet to read Edna’s work, this is a great way in.
Thanks @britishfilminstitute for supporting the film through its UK Global Screen Fund.
And happy UK release day @sineadeoshea@clairemarymccabe and team!

Tara Films is a production company helmed by BIFA winning, Emmy and PGA nominated filmmakers @kathrynferguson and @eleanor_emptage
The company’s first venture began in 2018 with their debut project Nothing Compares - a documentary about the artist Sinéad O’Connor. Nothing Compares premiered at @sundanceorg (World Cinema Documentary Competition) in January 2022 to critical acclaim, and went on to win multiple international awards.
In 2024, we are thrilled to unveil a new slate of non-fiction and drama projects, starting with Blue Road - The Edna O’Brien Story, which Tara Co-Produced with support from the UK Global Screen Fund. The film is directed by @sineadeoshea and will premiere at @tiff_net this weekend.
Tara is committed to making inspiring, cinematic work that sits at the intersection of the personal and the political. From stories about cultural icons, to life changing events, we look to shine a light on underrepresented voices and to make films that matter.
New projects to be announced soon.
Huge thanks to @Screendaily for including @tarafilms in their spotlight “11 UK film documentary companies with exciting projects in the works”.
Wonderful to see Tara included in this line up of UK doc companies we so admire. What a great group to be included in!
Thanks so much to Mona Tabbara for the interview and for thinking of us.
More updates on our slate coming soon.
Still feeling the buzz from last week’s brilliant CPH:DOX, where we presented our new film Matrescence in the Forum.
Always inspiring to see such vibrant and bold work being made internationally, and to spend time with our pals in the documentary community. A lot of fun was had!
To top it all off, we were surprised and delighted to walk away with the Sandbox Films Science Pitch Prize.
Special thanks to @cphdox@sandboxfilms and @screenscots and also to @britisharts for supporting our attendance
We spent a day in the woods with @lucyfjones author of Matrescence - her acclaimed and incendiary exploration of the transformative transition of motherhood.
As we searched for slime molds, we talked about matroreform, the pressures of caregiving within neoliberal capitalism, the radical new science underpinning her research and the deep interconnectedness of nature that runs through much of Lucy’s work.
We have all been born by a mother. What if the experience of Matrescence was properly understood and supported? Would the world look like it currently does today?
@tarafilms and @barrycrerar are delighted to be adapting Matrescence into a feature documentary, and honoured to have Lucy joining us on this journey.
We are presenting Matrescence at the @cphdox Forum this week and excited to share where we are at.
Huge thanks @sandboxfilms and @screenscots for their ongoing support.
Who knew how pretty slime molds could be…swipe to the end! #matrescencedocumentary #matrescence
We are delighted to share that our first short drama @nostalgie_short_film won an @iftaacademy award for Best Short on Friday night in Dublin and was nominated for Best British Short at @bafta on Sunday.
We are so deeply proud of this film and the team that came together to make it a reality.
Well done Team Nostalgie!
@bafta and @iftaacademy nominated @nostalgie_short_film will have its network premiere on @channel4 next Monday, 23 February, at 1.05AM!
Following Drew Lord Haig, a faded 80s pop star from England, who is invited to perform at an event in Northern Ireland. Hoping to recapture his glory days, he instead encounters a disturbing truth that changes everything.
Watch it live or stream on @channel4@film4@umusicglobeuk@ieentsltd@tarafilms #stilleproductions
We are extremely happy to share that our new feature documentary MATRESCENCE has been selected to present at CPH:Forum at @cphdox in March.
The film (adapted from the ground breaking book by Lucy Jones @lucyfjones ) is a co-development between Tara and barry crerar @barrycrerar - with Kathryn Ferguson @kathrynferguson set to direct and Eleanor Emptage @eleanor_emptage and Rosie Crerar as producers.
Grateful for the support from Screen Scotland @screenscots and Sandbox Films @sandboxfilms . More updates soon.
See you in CPH!
