The second of two spots we did over the winter for @Garmin ’s inReach satellite messenger. We spend enough time out of cell phone service to know how valuable the inReach is for emergencies, but also when you’re just going to be late for dinner. Thanks to @asphalt.and.beyond for the performance, and Garmin for the trust.

The latest in our New Mexico icons series is Ross Anderson, the fastest American on skis. Born at Holloman Air Force Base, near Alamogordo, Anderson hails from the Mescalero-Apache and Chiruachua tribes, and is enrolled in the Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes. In 2006, Anderson, who lives in Albuquerque, notched 154.06 miles per hour on his speed skis, which is faster than a skydiver falls through the air. We filmed with Ross at Ski Apache, his home mountain, last February.

A few years back, we shot a teaser for a series that we were going to call The Track. It followed a dirt racing league based out of the hardscrabble town of Grants, New Mexico. These guys are racing cars they build themselves with parts mostly found in junkyards. When they win they make tens of dollars. When they lose, it costs them their pride and sometimes their dignity.
Ultimately the series didn’t get picked up. Maybe the world has moved on from trying to understand a bunch of blue-collar guys who earn a wage, support their families, and enjoy the basic thrills of loud toys that go fast. In any event, we learned a ton—about just how much time and access and community buy-in it takes to make a series. About how hard it is to record audio on an active racetrack. About how many hands you really need to make an audacious project.
We talked a lot about whether to post this teaser at all because it feels like failure to us. But a lot of people poured themselves into those six months of production.
Thanks to all of the amazing and talented people who worked on it as well as the racers and community around Grants let us into their lives.

Wow, our first Super Bowl commercial. Finally! But seriously, funny story. Reddit’s wildly successful five-second spot featured two shots. The second—horses running in Argentina—was ours, licensed from a stock website called @FilmSupply . We didn’t get rich on the GameStop rally, and we’re guessing we won’t get rich by licensing a shot for the Super Bowl, even though it’s hands down the most expensive airtime in the universe. But keep an eye on this page and we’ll let you know exactly what Film Supply pays for something like this. We know you’re curious. We are, too.

Spreads and stills from WILD SHEEP, our new co-lab (do people still say that?) with @yeti and @fossman8 . It's 156 of the most beautiful sheep photos ever taken, although at least three photographers told us that, "This is the greatest sheep photo ever taken!" We'll leave it for you to decide. We're over the moon with how it turned out and can't wait for the next one.
One of the highlights of the last few months was shooting this family vignette for Ralph Lauren’s Holiday campaign. The entire shoot came about in under a week and ended up being a real sprint to the finish. A huge thanks is owed to the people involved in making this project come together and for everyone finding a way to have a safe production in our current Covid climate.
Shot on Alexa Mini with Cooke S4’s.
